For Windows 8 only
To install:
- Patch using UxStyle uxstyle.com/
- Reboot
- Extract the Default theme folder into C:/windows/Resources/themes
- Right click on desktop and choose personalize
- Pick the first theme and change the color and wallpaper as you like.
This fix changes the active title bar's text to white and also changes the "maximize" and "minimize" buttons from black to white, so that if you want a dark title bar the text and icons don't disappear because of being the same color as the background.
This is the original theme with white text and black icons by "MrGRiM01": fav.me/d5er1ee
I downloaded that theme and changed the icons only.

EDIT:
To make the theme look like the picture do the following: after choosing it in personalization go to color then enable mixer and set hue and saturation to zero then play with intensity and brightness until the color fits your preference.

Copy it to "C:/Windows/Resources/themes/Default Style" and replace the "Default Style.msstyles" file there (I recommend that you keep a backup of it just in case, though).

Hello, any idea why "Quick Launch" toolbar will disappear after restart with custom theme like this, but will be saved if I add it to a (real) default theme? Thanks.

WARNING
If you patch your system (Win8.1 for me) with UxStyle you will most probably spoil it! The Start Menu will stop working properly, system will start slower and few other teribble things can happen (like black screen, because of messing with graphics drivers).
I had to make a system refresh, because of this...

Stop exaggerating. UxStyle won't "probably spoil it".Β Lots of people, including me, have used it without issue. You either did something wrong (like using a buggy theme, possibly this one) or have some conflicting software that somehow edited the handful of DLLs (I think 3) that UxStyle patches. UxStyle itself shouldn't be causing any issues.
That said, UxStyle didn't work for me at all, so I had to use the UxStyle-based one called UXTheme Multi-Patcher:  www.windowsxlive.net/uxtheme-m⦠. I don't know what the exact difference is, but somehow this one worked.

I don't know what was the exact cause, but I had to refresh my system... I was feeling I had to warn people so I did it. It could be the theme, who knows. A lot of Win8.1 features stopped working after playing with it.

Great, but not perfect. Right clicking a icon in the taskbar messes up some of the icons.

I really like this theme. Unlike the theme mentioned in the previous comment, this one actually has a good inactive title color scheme as well. However, if I right click on an icon in the taskbar, the pin appears over the popup window, messing everything up.
Oh, never mind. I know how to fix this. I just used the aero.msstyles from "themes/AeroDark" (link in previous comment), copied it to "themes/Default Style", and renamed it to "Default Style.msstyles". Now that pin icon disappeared.

Guys, i know about the Windows 8.1 jump list bug.. but i can't fix it since i'm Not a themer, nor do i want to learn how to theme.. i just applied the steps written by "MrGRiM01" and uploaded it for the lazy

This seems to be broken for me now. I've tried re-downloading the theme and re-selecting it, but the titlebar text is now black. The other custom theme I have (Aero-style transparency) is still working. Do you think it's a problem on my end, or could something have happened to break this theme? It did happen immediately after a Windows update. I posted this comment before, but I'm not sure if it didn't go through or I made a mistake or whatever. It says in the download that I can ask questions here.

This seems to not work suddenly as of ~ October 9. The title bar text is now black again. So is this theme broken, or do I need to re-patch the system after every Windows update? I'm still new to custom themes, so if that's the case, my apologies for being a noob, heh.
