Thank you, a very light touch with multiple layering and softening with cotton wool. Softer graphite pencils from 4B to 7B makes blending easier the more layers you put down but it has taken a bit of practice. All cross hatching and no circulism helped too.

So beautiful. How did you get the skin so soft and smooth?

Thanks, they are indeed. This is probably the best infant i have ever drawn and i still haven't drawn a convincing one since this so I desperately hope it wasn't a one off. Having a good referenced did help though.

The skin texture is so incredibly smooth...flawless work. Such a fan of yours and when I grow up I want to be half as good as you!

Wow thanks Frank, i appreciate that, you made my day mate. Yes i love it, fell in love with the reference as soon as i saw it, i couldn't believe no one had drawn the fabulous stock image here on DA. It's turning into one of my most popular pieces to date and i haven't drawn a baby since this one. It's the first baby drawing i've been satisfied with for sure.

Hi Mark, I really admire you r attention to fine detail. Your full light areas, reflected light, half tones, shadow edges and cast shadows are all so well done. I like the texture of the skin and am wondering if you are using the smooth shading technique (traditional side of the graphite) or the tip of your pencil or graphite powder. Its a beautiful texture. I love the emotion here too; the moment in time you have so beautifully captured. Great work Mark, I have enjoyed looking at all your work and can see your various journeys of discovery in many of your works. Sincere regards Cindy
