Ok, so here is the worst kept secret I've ever had, the gift for my mom. My tribute to Sir Laurence Olivier, one of the greatest actors to ever walk this earth. His version of "Hamlet," was really what started me with my love of cinema, and why I do sometimes sit and watch old movies.Picture is 8x11
Graphite pencils: 2H-9B (yeah, I pretty much used all of them)
Blended with tissues, tortillions, and stumps.
Highlights with erasures.
Approx. time, 14 hours, give or take.
(It's done as much as I am going to do it, have that feeling if I do anymore, as usual, I'll just mess it up.)
*small view is cool, but I think the full view is better. MSR

Yep this is great!! I prolly have to say the best part of this drawing in terms difficulty is the hair. You've done it wonderfully. You've given good detail to the strands and also the reflections on the hair. I usually try to avoid drawing pictures that have very fine details on the hair because I get very impatient and mess it up. I drew a picture of 2pac and I avoided drawing his hair by putting his well known bow tie around his head. I envy your hair drawing skills. Great work!!

Oh god, this hair was a pain in the ass....but I did it lovingly. Mainly cause maybe 2yrs ago...(hell maybe even just a year) I couldn't draw hair either, and would purposely crop reference pictures so I could avoid drawing it as much as possible. But with some tips from guys like and and watching them work, I gradually have picked it up a bit.
(I have a faith hill one I'm working on, I think it's in my scraps folder, that hair is driving me nuts.....lol..)

Wow .. even if you did work on it more .. I somehow find it hard to believe you would mess it up as you say!

Oh I would. It could be a smudge, spilling something on it, putting a dark mark somewhere...it would happen. I'm just that kind of guy...
But Thank you sooo much for the comment. That was how I wanted it to come out actually. That kind of muted, very soft, but yet strong kind of look. Just like the man in the picture.
And thank you for all your wonderful comments. It's cause of people like yourself, that if I don't draw for a day, I really feel bad about it. I mean you kind of push me to draw. (not saying that in a bad way at all)...just kind of makes me think.."Ok, I could waste time watching TV, but damn, I had better draw something." So I thank you much.

Oh thank god. With how bad my back is right now, that's the last thing I'd need. (ok, so maybe not the VERY last thing I would need, but I don't want to tempt fate anymore than I already have by saying any of this...so evenutally, I'm gonna have to stop typing.....and..damnit, let fate decide...lol
(ok, Matt is a little bit on the slap-happy side right now....combination of tired, drinking tea, and the muscle relaxers. How slap happy am I you ask. I find Peanut Butter kind of funny right now....lol)

Now Stanley! I'll have you know I always read every word of every comment I get! I mean someone took the time to type it, so the least I can do is read what they said .. right? lol
Seriously though, I do read every word of a message that someone or a friend writes to me. But I like to talk anyways .. so sometimes I feel my messages are long and drawn out too! lol
Oh there is nothing wrong with being slap~happy .. I feel that way a lot of the time and not even on meds! .. gim'me lottsa sugar in my tea! 
Did I pass the test I hope? lol There is only a few things that will stop me from talking .. one of them is when I don't feel well ... I'd say sleep does .. but I've been told I even talk then too .. so if you want me to shut up I guess put a sock in there (clean one please) or just put a hand over my mouth! Duct tape would probably work best though Matt! lol
Ok I'll try and stop talking now .. it probably won't do any good but I'll seriously try ............................... Nope couldn't do it sorry .. I just had to say something .. even if it was nothing .. or stupid even! Matt get the duct tape .. HURRY! lol ^^

The hair, is remarkable - from his head to his brows. And you did a lovely job with the proportions, everything looks like it fits nice and proper.
I like the way you manage to give your work a "soft" feel. Althought there's not a lot of strong contrast, instead of looking washed out, it almost glows.

Thank you....I have to say, I love this one. I think I sat there after I got "done" last night looking at it for like an hour. I can't wait to see this framed, and hanging in my mom's house....
