Description I've always loved fairy tales. Not the sanitized versions produced for most kids these days, but the old versions of Bros Grim and other older style tellings of folk stories.

I recently read an immensely satisfying book of fairy tales: Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales. Definitely an adult read, folks, not for the kiddies. Especially the Innuit tales, whew...don't leave this laying around for the children to dip into

When I was a kid I didn't like Anderson's tales so much as those of the Grimm brothers...but as I've grown older I've come to appreciate them much more.

Thumbelina is one of my favourites, though honestly I prefer the Ugly Duckling.

This painting started as an experiment with art nouveau, just diddling around with a design for a frame. The rest painted itself, I had no intention to paint this particular scene...but somehow it started appearing, and the overly designed frame I began with receded until it was completely gone.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Anderson and Grimm where the best! Less soppy than the others!
And, i like thumbellina, it's a very adult tale, I take my inspiration from it for a story I wrote. : )

I really like your toad on the mushroom, he is cute and particularly perverse in his eyes!

Yeah, H.C andersen have som good ones, I really like the little mermaid, since the original version is more sad, in a beautifull way somehow. but thumblina is good too, .
I must admit I haven't read much Grim though (I think) ...

Anyway, back to this picture.
Like that you gave her somehow a unsatified expresion on her face (since she doesn't really want to marry the frog). And like the dress (and flowers) she have on her.

Ah, gee, the little mermaids story was such a hard read for me, the ending is just so sad But it's a good story! Maybe someday I'll have a go at illustrating it.

Thanks for your comments on this painting...I found it a bit hard to paint a frog as a 'baddie' in this, as I quite like frogs. But I reckon I wouldn't want to marry one lol, so easy to imagine Thumbelina's distress!

This is a lovely image! you have drawn thumbalina beautifully.

I am a lover of classic fairy tales as well.

Although beauty and the beast is my favourite.

The older styles have so much more to them, I agree with you.

I had also an error with adding your work as favorite: it showed as 'added' on your work, but id didn't show up in my favorite list. I had to remove the favorite and add it again to make it work. (Probably something to do with deviant's appreciation day...)
