It's beautiful!
How do you work out the colors? Do you ever use reference for them or do you just see em like that in your mind? Or do you just keep coloring until it looks "right"?
I just keep coloring until it looks like what I intend, but I never ever can get vivid, perfectly contrasting colors that way. Your hues/temperatures all seem so perfect (in all the paintings, not just this one)
I'm in aw. O_O

Thanks,
I regard to color, I am usually thinking about complimentary palettes, or split-complementary palettes from the very beginning. I usually do a lot of process in the department of value-studies and color-studies, but im getting faster at it.
I don't think there's anything inherently better in my use of color to render form than what you've got going on in your work. The only place where I think there's a difference might be in bigger choices, like the context of colors.
Like, if you've got a character who's being hit by blue light, or just has blue skin, it might make sense to play that character against an orange (complement) background, or just have some orange jewelry or accesories.
or if you're traveling the path of split-complimentary, it'd be the same thing, except instead of just orange, it would be red-orange and yellow-orange in a way that kind of subconsciously added up to the compliment, orange.
It is kinda formulaic, but it works for me!

Wow, you actually answered. You're inceredibly sweet (and it was way helpful), I'm totally gonna give it a try and be more brave with my choices. I'll do some studies and see how it works out for me.
Please, keep up the very inspiring work (I've got your blog bookmarked and I can't wait to see new stuff!)

Cool deal, I'm looking forward to what you post in the future too! And I got to ask, how do you keep your DA page so bumpn'? You've got some crazy traffic going on over there, or so it seems!

Once again, your use of color is awesome! I also love how the composition leads my eye around the piece, and I find the textures in the water quite interesting. :>

Great to see you back. Love the machine, as well as what it appears to be leaving in its wake; the background is really nice.
The figures are great. I love the hammer and am curious to find out the story on all the characters.
