The X-series Tactical Command Droid. You would think that similar droids would be widespread throughout the Administration. You would, however be wrong. True the Administration relies heavily on droids for both civilian and military duties, but that is because the Administration has a terrible time maintaining its population. One of the things they do to keep the population (somewhat) stable, is to make sure there are plenty of jobs for people to earn a living and have purpose. The exception is dangerous work such as toxic waste cleanup and, of course frontline combat. Now Military command, or really any administration droid is a sort of taboo. Not only do such droid take away peoples jobs and purpose in life, they also take away power from the cabals within the Administrations Hierarchy.

Despite this, there are those who keep trying to improve and push progress. The X-series was to share the fate of all its predecessors, killed on the debate floor before it even left the chalkboard. Unlike its predecessors, who were championed only be engineers and military leaders. The X-series had a secret weapon, Administrator Lanister. A young but skilled Administrator that had experience and influence with the big players in the hierarchy. He did not propose the project as a large scale idea that would lead large swathes of the military (and in doing so replace many ambitious military personnel hoping to climb the ranks.) Instead he proposed a much smaller idea. These new droids would be aids and assistance, not unlike automated file clerks and secretaries, which were uncommon but not unheard of. They would merely oversee those posts that would be mind-numbingly boring for human troopers. Perhaps they would even serve under human commanders, taking over minor or routine tasks to lighten the commanders workload so he may focus on the bigger picture. If need be he could be a second mind to bounce ideas off of. Even the name X-series, to insinuate an experimental model, was chosen to make it seem like it would be a small project that would threaten no-one.

It was this framing that got the project off the ground. They are small in number, no more than 15 have been made. Mostly they serve as was originally proposed. 5 serve in minor commands, defending an ammo dump and such. Although one of these serves in the training branch, using its advanced computing to analyze cadets and training methods. 5 Serve in active armies, serving as minor leaders, aids, and analysts for human leaders. The last five are special however. they are officially backups, offline and in storage. In reality though, two command top secret bases that store secrets that can be trusted to no man. One is an engineer, working in the Administrations most secret and feared weapons programs. The last two are the most closely guarded secret. They are outright military commanders. They are not mere administrators of a insignificant base, they are the top commander of their given armies. These two are sent on the most important and secretive mission of the Administration. The reason these last two are so closely guarded is that if they would become public knowledge, all units would be scrapped, the blueprints burned, and many heads would role.

Now there computing and analytical skills are excellent, as you would expect of a machine. Their tactical skills are fairly impressive, but initially they were unable to handle the human element in play. However, those who have more battlefield experience, or experience around human, have shown frightening improvement. Now despite being command units they are capable fighters. There armor is quite tough being comparable to a Generals warplate, minus the human weakness. There armament is truly interesting. Its a small automatic weapon that fires full rifle rounds. Most would classify it as a small carbine, but the strength of the X-series   allows them to wield it as an automatic handgun.

The Administration council tolerate the prototypes for now but they are closely watched. Many are impressed by the result but few outside the project are eager for further progress. X-series relations to there troops and commanders depends on the experience of the unit in question. Those who have not seen much combat tend to be hated by their subordinates for being too strict on rules and regulations. The commanding X-series often treat their human troopers as defective drones, and prefer their fellow machines. X-series with experience around human are interesting however. They tend to spend much time studying their human troops, commanders and colleges. Not only how they fight, but things like how they form friendships, their personal beliefs, and other strange details. Invariably these units develop there own personalities, which can allow them to integrate and even develop friendships. Or it can give the humans around them more reason to fear them. X-series are particularly fascinated by Gunmen cyber-commandos. They devour any data on them, and will jump through any hoop to speak to one. This has raised some eyebrows within the project. While the Gunmen don't mind these interviews, they are held under strict supervision, and each Gunmen is briefed over what he may or may not talk about with the droid.
