Description It may come as a surprise to some of you, but yes... I am still alive. Haven't had time to do much personal painting these past months, but now I finally finished something new. And I am quite proud of this one, can't wait to see it on a really large print. Hope you guys enjoy it. I think I can say with some certainty, that you should be able to see another piece or two quite soon.

Tell me what you think!

The piece gives an unmatched sense of scale and the name is well chosen. This is a genuinely inspirational painting.

A few years ago I went to England on a trip with my father and was able to have a brief tour of BAE Systems, it was fascinating, but your painting is so much more dramatic, and the boat looks much better in the colours you used.

Thanks for that compliment =] I imagine it must be cool to sea those beasts in person. So far I never had the chance to do so, but maybe one day

I found the whole experience intimidating, overwhelming, and just a little scary. The submarine's cost was 7 billion pounds. And despite feeling enormous on the outside, it did not feel that way inside. I would imagine space ships will be very much this way.

memod In reply to Moosezoomin [2012-12-28 21:34:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it must be a pretty impressive sight. And I am by no means a fan of weapons or war, but I do find the technology quite fascinating. But yeah I bet inside it's rather crammed.
And at least the current space stations are probably like that

From the photos I've seen of the ISS there is no room inside for anything.

Nah it's not a specific model. I looked at all kinds of subs for reference just to get a sense for what belongs on a sub and for its scale It is amazing how ginormous these things are.

very crammed

no room to yourself

pipes, valve, equipment

Great work. I worked on the Trident Submarines and it really brings back good memories. The welding light and reflection is the best I have seen.

Glad I found this work. Awesome.

Cheers, Mike

Wow, what was that like, to work on these things? They must be huge when you see them in person. I looked through so much reference while I was painting this and I was always struck by their size. And at the same time they are so elegant.

Thanks a bunch, Mike! That means a lot =]

zulumike In reply to memod [2012-06-25 14:27:50 +0000 UTC]

I was proud to be a part of a dedicated work force to build both the Trident Submarine (Ohio Class) and the 688 fast attack attack sub ( Los Angeles Class).

The Trident subs are called "Boomers" because of the (24) nuclear missles it carries.

The Trident subs are build inside on a large rail grid system. They cost 3 billion dollars and they took approx. four year to build. They are considered the 2nd most complicated man-made structure to build. The space shuttle was the first.

Cheers, Mike

Wow. This is one of my favorites. I really love the details in this. I quite enjoyed finding all the different people around the scene doing various job - or just standing and watching. Love the use of lighting and space in this one... some warm light, or natural light, with the shadows, and windows everywhere!

I suppose that's enough gushing, anyway, great job. Love it.

memod In reply to Ahuvah [2011-04-26 17:31:58 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thanks so much, Kristen! I'm really glad you like it so much It's always a conscious effort for me to make a scene feel alive, so I'm definitely glad that you perceive it as such. And yeah, light is just fun It is really interesting to try and turn around the lights in my head and find the best possible angle

Thanks again
