"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I am Doctor Yaguchi Hasegawa, Chief Anomalous Radiologist at the Nautilus Foundation, and I am here to introduce the various anomalous organisms or "Kaiju" named by the general public, today starting with the secondmost infamous Subject known to the Foundation as well as the rest of humanity. This meeting is exclusively for Level 3 personnel and above, so if you have found your way here without proper credentials, please leave now or know that you will be found and proper disciplinary actions will be administered. With that, let us begin.

Anomaly #: Subject-1955

Subject Danger Class: Euclid

Threat Containment Procedures: The extreme resilience of Subject-1955 means that any anti-anomalous protocols devised would have to take a wide number of factors into account. Its thick coating of armor, which is strong enough to resist attacks from even Subject-1954, renders most conventional weaponry more or less useless; indeed, it is likely that such measures would only serve to further provoke Anguirus, leading to further unnecessary loss of life. As such, Anti-Anomalous Protocol 55-A (“Nakajima”) (see SUBJECT FILE-1955 HISTORICAL FILE #A_1955 -B) relies very much on unconventional methods. Though the protocol has never been tested but once and its efficiency has accordingly been heavily debated, a rough timeline of events would be as follows:

1. An array of AGM-8C Maser Cannons are deployed, firing at Subject-1955 in a ring around the containment site. Given that “Anguirus” possesses melee capabilities with one ranged weapon, it would be incapable of attacking anything beyond the range of its tail spines and spiked carapace. The Maser Cannon would fire seventy million volts of electricity, designed to cause extensive damage should they penetrate Anguirus’ skin.

2. Upon distraction of Anguirus, a modified version of the existing Type 74 tank would then be deployed. Rather than conventional explosive shells, those deployed by these tanks would contain a coagulating material “Anti Nuclear Energy Bacteria” (see SUBJECT FILE - 1989 INCIDENT), designed to rapidly freeze whatever has been hit, reducing radiation exposure in a specific area. In theory, a consistent and sustained assault from tanks with such weaponry would dramatically lower the temperature of Anguirus’ body, gradually forcing it into a state of dormancy long enough for the Foundation to contain the anomaly.

Should the second stage fail for whatever reason, Anti-Anomalous Protocol 55-A (“Nakajima”) will be employed as an alternative. It must be noted, though, that the secondary protocol is far more destructive and may lead to further loss of life. Protocol 55-B (“Tezuka”) consists of an aerial bombardment by JAASDF S-R-X-84 (see SUBJECT FILE-1954 HISTORICAL FILE #12 - 1984 INCURSION), carrying a payload of three GBU-43/B MOABs. Contrary to the first protocol in an on-site containment breach, the second containment measure is designed to inflict as much physical damage as possible, with the hope of permanently disabling Subject-1955 or even neutralizing it.

History: Today, we will be discussing Subject-1955 or "Anguirasu," translated by ECHO, our on-site AI, as Anguirus. December 25, 1954. since Subject-1954, Godzilla, had been seemingly destroyed by an unknown biological explosive constructed by rogue Nautilus Foundation member, Koji Serizawa, in Tokyo Bay. The public had assumed that the threat of Godzilla was no more, that no such creature would ever threaten the world again.

The public had assumed wrong.

The earliest recorded reemergence of Subject-1954 occurred on Christmas, 1954, when a fleet of twenty naval ships near Sagami Bay evacuating the survivors of the anomaly's rampage through the Ginza ward in Tokyo on December 1st to Shizuoka was attacked and destroyed by a seemingly healed Godzilla, the sudden appearance resulting in 500 deaths, and being referred too as the Red Christmas Incident (see SUBJECT FILE-1954 HISTORICAL FILE #7 - RED CHRISTMAS INCIDENT). April 24, 1955. The next known appearance, on the coast of Iwata Island, was noteworthy in that unlike in the first encounter, where the beast had operated alone, there was another anomalous hyperfauna with it. A huge, spine-covered creature erupted from a nearby mountain with a single swing of a submerged tail and engaged Subject-1954 in a toe-to-toe match, eventually gaining the upper hand against Godzilla. The victor could not be decided, however, as the two of them tumbled off a crumbling cliff and into the sea below before they could reach this point with both anomalies vanishing from human view, though both Subject-1954 and Subject-1955 would be sighted again in the following days.

As the Japanese government and the Nautilus Foundation attempted to deal with Subject-1954, attempting to use a series of flares to lure him away from civilization (see SUBJECT FILE-1955 HISTORICAL FILE #3 - OSAKA INCURSION), what little photographic evidence could be gained of the second monster was bought in for study. The creature then surfaced a second time to do battle with Godzilla in the heart of Osaka, though the city had already been evacuated, and power had been shut down, resulting in far fewer casualties than the 1954 tragedy. As it was, Anguirus lost the second battle against Godzilla due to a bite to the throat, who was now even more enraged than earlier, and Subject-1955 quickly burrowed into the crust of the Earth, gorging itself on the energy of various volcanos it passed under; while Subject-1954 would eventually be lured to a small island with infrasonic sounds mimicking his own and incapacitated by being buried under a controlled avalanche.

While witnesses insisted on it being some kind of massive, sinuous aquatic creature, giving it the name of "Anguillasaurus" or "eel lizard" - which would later be shortened to "Anguilas" and then Romanized to "Anguirus," the blurry photos of the beast combined with numerous cave paintings around the world depicting a massive ankylosaurid or giant land-dwelling reptile confirmed that Subject-1955 was indeed an armored land-dwelling Kaiju - originally suspected to be an irradiated ankylosaurid, from the structure of his limbs, scaled integument, and the shape of his skull, jaws, and teeth, it would only later be deduced that his closest relatives were the extinct crocodilians of the Jurassic and Cretaceous period.

Mortally wounded during his heated bout with Subject-1954, Anguirus would be seen, albeit sparingly, throughout the following decades, travelling along the Pacific Rim, resulting in numerous reports of strange activity within the fiery calderas whilst other sightings have Subject-1955 engaging in territorial conflicts with other anomalous organisms across the planet. Both research teams and more daring civilians claimed to see massive objects moving about within the active lava, starting in northern Japan, and gradually moving northward. After the containment of Subject-1954, Anguirus was eventually discovered in a state of dormancy underneath a mountain roughly fifteen miles from Munich, Germany, where the Foundation constructed a containment site around and beneath it.

Biology: Suggested to be a lost division of the modern-day ankylosaurid, Subject-1955 is a pseudosuchian archosaur, often mistaken for an aberrant ankylosaur. Though passively radiotrophic and possessing an extremely variable metabolism, Anguirus can be seen eating organic material than most anomalous organisms: identified aspects of its diet include large conifer trees and volcanic sediment, whatever is available; on occasion, it attempts to hunt and kill other anomalies. To that end, Subject-1955 utilizes a set of enormous, grooved tusks, reinforced by extensions of its recurved beak, which act like a set of giant shears that can slice through stone and metal alike. Anguirus bears a heavily armored body, covered in interlocking osteoderms that run from the base of its neck to the tip of its tail. The plates are composed of dense bone, and can be drawn together by specialized muscles to form an impenetrable barrier when necessary. Each plate possesses between 5–10 large, irregular scutes; towards the end of the tail, where the bony plates flatten, re-emerging in a solid “tail club,” wherein they are modified into large spines. The underside of Subject-1955 bears an array of pointed, rigid scales, outwardly resembling the chin structures of the Pogona Vitticeps. The flexibility of its armor allows the subject to curl into a ball like an armadillo. Naturally, should its rigid defenses fail it, Subject-1955 will employ a large number of offensive weapons.

Alongside the aforementioned tusks and tail mace/club, it possesses a large set of claws on its forelimbs, which are typically used for burrowing through the terrain. A large nasal horn, and a “crown” of spikes at the rear of “Anguirus’” skull, are used to repel attacks. Should they somehow be navigated, the cornification of the top of its head prevents any serious damage from being dealt. Anguirus’ only ranged weapon is something known as the Hyper Oscillatory Wave, a phenomenon where the anomaly is capable of emitting infrasonic vibrations from a specially adapted and incredibly powerful larynx in the form of a deafening roar which can create a massive shockwave cone of vibrated air, which is capable of crushing and destroying targets with sheer concussive force.

In combat, his tactics are brutally simple; he forces opponents to the ground with his shear weight, and then mauls them with his extremely powerful beaked jaws, goring them with his nose horn and claws or simply blowing through enemies with the Hyper Oscillatory Wave. He can also charge into enemies with unexpected speed for his size, and gore them with his nose horn.

Anguirus has come to be known as a “Bio-Lithic” anomalous organism; a Kaiju whose physiology is composed of over 70% mineral matter; a very literal embodiment of the term “living fossil.” Subject-1955 consumes mostly radioactive elements within active volcanoes, and travels by swimming through the magma beneath Earth’s crust. He is a poor swimmer, and can only crawl along the seabed, though he won’t drown. His armored hide is composed of various mineral alloys, only slightly more vulnerable at the relatively softer joints. This armor is metabolically regrown on a molecular level, essentially making it a single giant molecule, extremely resistant to damage. Much of the time, the metabolic rate of “Anguirus” is abnormally low. This low metabolic rate, among other factors, allows for a heightened regenerative ability, allowing for the complete regrowth of lost tissues, even in a low-radiation setting, in as little as a week. Analysis of extracted samples indicates that the rate of stem cell growth and differentiation occurs at an unprecedented rate.

Behavior: Subject-1955, though highly dangerous when angered, is an otherwise simple anomalous organism. He spends his time traveling to viable feeding areas, grazing on volcanic rocks, seldom minding other beings around him. Anguirus' nature is distinguished by one critical trait: determination. He is feisty and tenacious, with no understanding of even the idea of retreating, and will brazenly challenge Kaiju twice his size and many times his power. When agitated, however, he is every bit as relentless as his old foe, Godzilla, whom he now seems to regard with an odd kind of respect. His shear perseverance is often enough to ward off would-be aggressors, and he won’t hesitate to make meals out of smaller kaiju should their presence prove annoying.

He is as adept at surface-level combat as most other anomalies, but can also function competently in a fossorial setting, burrowing into the ground to escape danger or surprise foes from below. He is straightforward and brutal in battle, and his strength and agility are immense. While more like a land-dwelling crocodile than anything else in physical appearance, some have compared his attitude to a honey badger - refusing to give up, charging in without fear, and going down swinging until his very last breath. He is not averse to traveling alongside Subject-1954 as an aide against global threats, however, and should there be a need for Godzilla to settle a score, Anguirus is often the first to come to his aid. If Godzilla is the King of the Monsters, Anguirus is surely the greatest knight of his royal court.

That’s all the time we have today. If you have requests for other anomalies to cover in these lectures whether of the more mythical variety or more common anomalous organisms, please log them in the comments section below. I’ve been Dr. Yaguchi Hasegawa, thank you all for your time, and have a good night."
