I'm quoting this off Wikipedia but:
In an address to a joint session of theΒ United States CongressΒ in May 1952, General Ridgway said the following:
βI shall speak briefly of the 23rd US Infantry Regiment, ColonelΒ Paul L. FreemanΒ commanding, [and] with the French Battalion... Isolated far in advance of the general battle line, completely surrounded in near-zero weather, they repelled repeated assaults by day and night by vastly superior numbers of Chinese. They were finally relieved... I want to say that these American fighting men, with their French comrades-in-arms, measured up in every way to the battle conduct of the finest troops America and France have produced throughout their national existence."
The commander of the 23rd Infantry RegimentΒ said of the French Contingent:
βWhen you order them [the French] in defence, you're sure they'll hold the position. When you show them a hill to be seized, you're sure they'll manage to get atop. You may leave for two days, storms of shells and waves of enemies may swarm over them, the French are still there!"
France was a fighting influence and a very stubborn fighter. Despite this prejudice based off most American action movies and the Pink Panther, I respect France for his attempts at peace and the hardships he withstood during the German occupation of France. La Resistance and the nearly smooth reform of a government from imperialism (unlike what's happening in many countries today who have overthrown their leaders) was admirable in some counts for what it has lead to today.
Β
Yes, perhaps bayonets are not violent enough of a weapon for you (personally, I'd be scarred for life if I saw someone gauging out my brother's insides with a bayonet, french or not). You have the freedom of speech, you are American, but please don't assume that this is a general opinion, it makes many look bad and makes me think of all the times the Americans have made fun of the French in movies and other (Freedom fries, quelqu'un?).
S'il vous plait monsieur, donnez nous un peut de respect.Β

France is a pussy and lost. No doubt. North Korea one this fight without even blinking. I can imagine it now, France tries sticking his bayonet in North Korea, NK jumps and plants his foot in France's poncy ass ugly face, and then Steps off and pops his brains all over the ground! OWNED!

this is a great series!
although technically the war did not end because there was no peace treaty...

Actually....We're still at war with North Korea to this day. South Korea didn't sign the peace treaty because he didn't believe North Korea's word. So because of that, we are still technically at a full-fledged war. Which is why in South Korea, they have the mandatory 2 year Military service, Just in case there is an attack.

I know, after everyone pretty much hating on them for the whole time it's fun to see them fight on their side anyway.

Yeah, there ARE a lot of jokes about the French being cowards in battle but their defeats were NOT because of cowardice but because their leaders made mistakes especially early in WW2 and when they decided to try to keep Indochina after the war which by then impossible given how the populous there was Anti-French.
I actually have quite a bit of respect for the French now even if I don't agree with certain things that they tend to do.

Like what? (mind I ask, only because I'll explain without getting angry, unless of course it's pure insult with no truth).
You should see my family's French side, the conversions seem like a race to who's right, with allot interesting information. But that's because we're sponges to different topics.
Mostly it's no big deal to be French, never have I been called a coward out of the general internet. My mom has been nicknamed a frog and a French fry but she hardly cared since it wasn't anything worth putting time into. The family I have is hard working and has a completely normal accent in English. I'm surprised if someone could tell we where French. And equally so if they thought that insulting. Somehow.

of course this achievement of French military happened when their military leader was not actually a Frenchman but a Hungarian ......proving once again French military needs either a woman or non-french to lead it in order to win.....
