Mermaids are an all female species that rely on human males for reproduction. They are often quick to flirt, but are also notoriously particular about who they will actually choose as a mate. They will often require suiters to dote on them for weeks on end, during which time they will expect their suiters to be at their beck and call. As far as they are concerned, any man unwilling or unable to wait on them is not worth their time.
