Also, it constantly needs to be polished in order to shine.
Subs: A small handgun which he never uses, unless the spirit is being particularly dangerous. He will never use his weapons on humans.
Some throwing daggers in his pouch, but he sometimes loses them and his aim isn't very consistent.

P e r s o n a l i t y

Nier is a rather calm and gentle person who likes people (or at least tries to ) and rarely gets angry. Most of the time, he seems rather cheerful and welcoming, but often worries about others and tries his best to help out whenever he can. He definitely likes to joke around and is a rather easygoing person, often playing along when people joke about him. It's rather surprising to find someone like him running a mafia. Unfortunately, he likes to spoil people by showering them with gifts or taking them to fun places when he has time. Nier likes to think of the people of NOCTIS as family, even if some of them are a bit questionable. However, don't take advantage of his behavior. If someone were to piss him off enough to make him angry, he will be quite scary. He has a quiet yet menacing type of anger that probably shouldn't be experienced. ;;; Nier is hardworking, even if he jokes around and slacks off all the time at times. Beginnings

Nier D'Artois was born on the island of Leia shortly after the birth of his older brother, Astor. His father, the current boss of NOCTIS, was ecstatic to learn that he had two heirs to his mafia, though less pleased when he found out that Nier was a weak-ass baby. No one really knew at the time whether he had the ability to see spirits like his father and older brother. During the first few years of his life, Nier was constantly getting sick and stayed indoors while Astor trained personally with their father. Other NOCTIS members often visited him in the infirmary, but Nier was upset to hear that his father never did (he also learned from senior agents several years later telling him his father indeed visited him. Apparently he only showed up when Nier was asleep to save himself from the embarrassment of being seen?). He never even looked him in the eye when they ate together as a family, treating him like air (this turned out to be training and made his father weep inside ;v; Poor D'Artois papa). His brother had tried to comfort him, telling him that his father just wanted him to become stronger. Once his immune system was a little better, Nier began to train with the NOCTIS agents at the age of ten.

He received spartan-like training, beginning early before the sun rose and late at night, with only two days off a week. It was very hard on the scrawny boy, but he pushed on in order to make himself stronger, in order to prove himself to his father. Training was brutal and he often suffered from injuries and painful bruises that made everyone wince when they caught sight of him. Still, he asked for more and the agents were willing to help him out. His father was pleased with his accomplishments and allowed him to become a student even though he showed no sign of the ability. He followed agents and senior agents around on their missions in order to gain more experience himself. Although Astor was the favorite of their father to become the next boss, Nier was slowly beginning to meet his standards. However, at the tender age of fifteen, he experienced something that would change his life forever.
Tragedy

Spirits usually never made their way into Leia, mostly due to the defense systems they had set up and the large number of agents residing there. NOCTIS could easily handle a couple of spirits, but they definitely were not expecting the numbers that invaded the island that day. A few hours after the sun rose, an immense crowd of spirits swarmed Leia, the sheer number of them rendering the defense systems useless. Nier and Astor were helping the residents find refuge in the large NOCTIS headquarters while the other agents fought. That is, until a woman claimed she could not find her son, that he probably ran back to the house. The two brothers made their way through ruins of homes until they heard a little boy scream. As Nier entered the house, something hit the back of his head, causing him to fall onto the floor. His head spun as his brother told him to get the little boy while he would fight off the spirits, which he couldn't see. He ran up the stairs and found the little boy, grabbing him in his arms and running towards the window. After he got him safely to the ground, he watched an agent take him to the car and immediately went down to check on Astor. An explosion shook the house and Nier was thrown to the ground besides his brother, causing him to black out briefly.

When he was slightly conscious, he was aware of the pain on his upper lip and along his entire back, as well as the ringing in his ears and crimson on his hands. Gritting his teeth, he crawled over to his brother and yelled in shock. Astor's face was badly damaged and the two of them were bleeding all over the place. He honestly didn't remember much after that, clinging onto his brother's sleeve while NOCTIS members took them back to HQ to receive medical attention. All the spirits were decimated, but repairs would take time. A better defense system was installed to withstand even more spirits; NOCTIS had learned well. The boss didn't reveal any information on his two sons to the organization. They were both damaged and would never be the same. Nier had unlocked his ability to see spirits.
New Boss

It was a full year before Nier and Astor became active again; no one could blame them for the trauma. He was promoted to an agent shortly after, then to a senior agent after proving his worth in the Internal Affairs department run by his father. His brother was a senior agent in the Medics department, showing promising skill that made him appear like a miracle doctor. The two brothers served NOCTIS in these positions for many years, until their father decided that it was time to retire. All the agents around during this time experienced the boss's horrific temper as he tried to decide who would be suitable for the next boss. Nier, who was skilled with knowledge and hard work, or Astor, who excelled in leadership and athletics? Before he could really choose, Astor decided to leave and travel the world for no apparent reason. Though Nier was suitable for the job, his father often and still does give him a hard time because of Astor's decision...
At the age of twenty-one, now-legal-drinking-age Nier became the boss of NOCTIS on default. OTL

In the current year of 2925, NOCTIS became active in King's City under Nier's order.
