Description Its been such a long time since I've drawn this creature, years in fact. I'm somewhat pleased with how this came out. Yes, this is the finished product. Its being submitted to Patch Together to be made into a model

Its been approved! you can vote for it here!

Sleipnir is the eight legged horse from norse mythology. Sometimes depicted as the steed of the god Odin One Eye also kown as the All Father. It is the offspring of Loki and SvaΓ°ilfari, and accroding to lore is the best horse among either gods or mortals. (sources from memory of old class lectures on the norse pantheon, but checked against Wikipedia)

A popular way to depict Sleipnir is with four legs in front and four legs in back, so that he is very broad of chest. I however chose to depict him in the way I've always imagined during my mythology classes; almost serpintine. It just seems like it would work out better for locomotion. (and I think it looks cooler)

Thanks! All it takes is practice, a good way to get some experience is to find stock images (when it's permissible) and work to reproduce it as best you can.

It rather reminds me of a dachshund, in an odd sort of way.

Yeah, I see what you mean. When I was a kid I thought dachshunds should have extra legs.

Nicely done, with the second pair of front legs and the second pair of hind legs, plus the extra spine and midsections. He'd be rideable by Thor and some guests. The body looks workable, without the usual cluster of limbs that would bang against each other. Definitely new and improved, and the horse looks quite happy about it.

Why thank you! I bet he would be a much more comfortable ride than attempting to double-up on a standard horse as well.

The anatomy looks oddly realistic and plausible, but in your other drawings your treatment of anatomy is equally studious. You could probably make a believable centaur version of him, or for that matter, create a fully human humantaur with a second set of legs that would look natural and workable.

Again, thank you very much for your kind words and your observations. Analasys of Form and Anatomy were two of my favorite classes in college.

I've never thought of doing a Humantaur before. It seems like an interesting idea to play around with, and I'll have to give it a shot one of these days.

They're interesting.

I saw a couple of humantaur studies sketched on the web once; the link is gone now, but it was interesting.

It was a contemplative-looking nude male figure cross-legged, sitting on two pairs of crossed legs; in the alternate pose was he was seated with his front legs in front of him, soles on the ground, arms folded on his knees, and seated on his hind pair of legs, which were crossed, literally sitting in his own lap.

It looked so natural and comfortable I wished we could have four legs, if only to try it out.

I always think of odin's mount from final fantasy 8 (so epic)

but the serpentine sleipnir would be really neat too, Well done!

Yeah, I've always liked that design as well, and indeed for a warhorse it makes more sense. It would be able to lash out with two of the front four feet and still retain balance

Thanks! its gotten a supprisingly bad reception on Patch Together; granted the way I have it standing would be rather difficult to stand up.
