Two-Face:

Real name: Oiwa/ (Hekomi)

Group Affiliation: Yakuza, former Genshunin

Abilities:

(Design based on Basilisk character, Akeginu)

A shy young girl named Hekomi, and her older sister, Yūbiko met up with a band of children when circumstances led to them living on the streets.   Their mother had suffered an unexpected shock, and died of heartbreak, after receiving notice that her husband…their father, had died in a military campaign in service to the emperor.  Yūbiko was very protective of Hekomi.   One day, armed raiders came to the children’s lair to kidnap and sell the children into slavery.   A young boy who had recently joined their group, and had become close to Hekomi, fought hard; but it was not enough to stop the two sisters from being taken.  The raiders used their swords to kill the remaining children, leaving the boy for dead.  The girls were sold to the Yakuza and trained to become, Oiran.  After their training was complete they were placed in a house, where they would be required to entertain the patrons paying for their unique services.   Some sought to avail themselves of being waited on by the young courtesans or entertained with their singing, dancing, and musical talents, but many wished to avail themselves of their more physical talents; but to protect her younger sister, the older Yūbiko freely gave herself to the men looking to abuse her sibling.  They would agree, as she had honed her seductive abilities and had quickly become quite accomplished in the arts of pleasure…but Hekomi was always forced to watch.  This went on for years until one man decided he still desired the younger sister, after having had his way with the elder.  Yūbiko pleaded with him, but he was unrelenting and just pushed her aside.  Yūbiko attacked the man, and he stabbed her repeatedly in front of Hekomi.  She bled out while unable to do anything but watch as he violently forced himself on the sister she had protected for so long, dying as they stared each other in the eye.  He then drugged the traumatized Hekomi and took her with him.  She awoke, restrained to a table in a tattoo parlor completely nude.  He told her that he had purchased her from her previous establishment and had decided to rename her, “Oiwa”.  He had her tattooed on the entire right side of her body (including her face) in honor to the goddess of the dead, Izanami.  It was done in one long marathon session, with no pain relief or breaks.  She was unable to see anything that was done until it was completed.  Upon sight of what had been done to her, the collective trauma she had experienced of the recent events and of those over the years drove Oiwa into a psychotic break.  She went into a hysterical frenzy, repeatedly stabbing the artists who had worked on her with their own tattoo needles, until she was knocked out by the Yakuza thugs who had transported her there.  She awoke chained to a bed in a luxurious bedroom, where her captor’s associates were free to use her for whatever physical gratification, abuse…or humiliation they so desired.  This went on for some time, but throughout it, she remained catatonic; eventually emerging from that state…with a fractured psyche.  She now had two distinct personalities: One was based on her demure and innocent younger self, and the other based on everything she had ever seen her sister do as an oiran.  She seduced the yakuza boss into releasing her from bondage, and then continuing that seduction until she could place him in the binds that previously held her.  She then killed him, slowly…and brutally.  She then took over his gang and territory.  She then began to expand her criminal empire.  Those she was unable to seduce, she killed.  She became known for an ornate folding fan she carries; when making a decision, she would flip it into the air, then open it to the image of either yin or yang…dictating her next actions, good or bad.  She also uses the fan as a weapon.  Upon becoming aware of a new player in the criminal Underworld, The Batman confronts her; and as she attempts to seduce him, he realizes who she is and stops her by using her real name…infuriating her.   After a brief battle, Komori decides the best place for her is Arkham Island for her to try and heal, while keeping her from harming others. While there, she is recruited into an escape plan that includes revenge on the Batman.

Master Freeze:

Real Name: Kōru
Group Affiliation: Solo; former Sword of Sommersa apprentice

Abilities: Attunement to the Ice Element; Mys-tech Gelömagarde, ice amplification device, intellectually advanced

(Design based on Marvel Comics’ Hiro Kala)

Chosen by the Council of Elders to be the new apprentice to the new Sword of Sommersa, Icemistress; Freeze harbours an allegiance to Minister Blizzard and the Council, placed above his loyalty to his kingdom and his Master, The Sword.  He was chosen to be apprentice so that the Council could regain control over the sword once again; as Frost’s chosen apprentice, Koriotome came from a class of privilege, which allowed for her to maintain a level of independence they were unused to.   Kōru however, had his own sinister agenda.  Freeze was a part of a faction that exists in Sommersa who believe that there is still unexplored elements of science that are rejected in their community…namely sorcery.  While Sommersa was the kingdom’s scientific enclave, the Holy City of Shindagha was its concentration of religious and mystical practices.  The combination of the mystical with the scientific came across as an abomination to either faction, so a group who theorized a combination were possible, kept quiet and practiced developing their art and research in secret.  Ailanöra was a young devotee in the pursuits of what has been come to be known in other circles as Mys-tech; the combination of science and sorcery.  However, her experimentation alongside her partner, Kōru ended up with her in a constant state of stasis to protect herself and those around her.  He knew he needed powerful magic to rectify her status and restore her, so he did what was necessary to become the prime candidate for the apprentice to The Sword and plotted with Barron Blizzard, who persuaded Icemaiden to take Freeze as apprentice for the good of the empire.  He fought valiantly alongside the other Seven Sea Samurai during the Missing Master Quest, and after the final confrontation with the culprit responsible for the Swords’ disappearance, Ocean Master; he returned home to Sommersa.  As the quest concluded, Koriotome relinquished The Sword, and the rescued Kanki aka Killer Frost found herself with a new apprentice.   After some time as her trainee, Freeze takes advantage of a rare moment of weakness and steals the Sword of Sommersa from his master Killer Frost, and imprisons her.  He goes off to a secret base in Hitoshirenu, where he uses Mys-Tech to craft a device called, The Gelömagarde; which infuse the mystic elemental energies of the Sword into his own body and amplify them.  The other 7 Sea Samurai were alerted to his actions once ice started to creep into each of the kingdoms, overtaking them.  Seeing the threat he posed, they decide to intervene.  The Samurai and their apprentices arrived at the location, and a battle ensued. The amplified Iceweaving abilities of Freeze proved to be too much, even for the combined might of the Swordsmen. Claiming to be the greatest weaver of all time, he now demanded to henceforth be referred to as; Master Freeze!   He captured the swordsmen in an icetrap that they only survive due to the combined skills of Siren of Su’ Phalla and Dolphin of Shindagha, however they remain trapped.  Master Freeze returned to Sommersa to retrieve his beloved, Ailanöra, to attempt to revive her to have her by his side as he begins his conquest of the world, by freezing it to make her new empire.  His first target: The Goth-Ahm prefecture.  As he begins to freeze everything, he is confronted by The Batclan shinobi. They are able to find & destroy his amplification machine, which stops the ice progression (freeing the Swords), and saves Goth-Ahm. When the Swords arrive, Killer Frost reclaims her sword and they all unite to enact an ancient rite to banish him from all undersea kingdoms; by taking his ability to breathe underwater.  He is forever to be separated from his love, since he can no longer live underwater. He retains powerful, but crude ice generating abilities; unable to access the intricate iceweaving skills he possesed as weilder of The Sword.  Unable to return undersea to face further justice, the Swords agree to allow Batman to have him face his crimes on the surface by imprisoning him on Arkham Island.

Riddler:

Real Name: Eido Nazo
Group Affiliation: Enigma Clan

Abilities: Deception, confusion, genjutsu

(Design based on “The Batman” animated version)

When a feudal lord of the Goth-ahm prefecture neglected to pay the fee to the Enigma Clan for completed services, the clan leader, Riddler decided to make him pay another way.  He manufactured a meeting of all of the neighboring feudal lords and when they were all in one place, laced the place with hidden explosives.  With no one was offering to pay to stop Riddler, there was also no one was stepping up to stop him…until Batman decided to intervene. The Batclan had recently decided to take the eradicated Shadow Wing Clan’s spot in the Shinobi Order as premier ninja protectors, except without charging a fee (since Komori Watanabe was independently wealthy).  Batman located the hidden devices and freed the lords.  This infuriated Riddler. He then made another seemingly random attack within the province, which was but a distraction to another mission.  Batman figured out what that was and stopped that from happening as well.  An enraged Riddler became obsessed with trying to figure out a way to outsmart Batman, always with the lives of innocents in the mix. Riddler’s eldest son, Cluemaster; who could never gain his father’s favor, joined him in his quest to take down the Shadow of the Bat.   It was to no avail.   Eventually, the two shinobi clan leaders faced each other in battle.  After seeing how mad he had become, Batman transported Riddler to Arkham Island.  It was there that he came up with the escape plan, and began to recruit accomplices.

Catwoman: Real Name: Shiori Kawaii
Group Affiliation: Catclan

Abilities: Acquisitions, infiltration, taijutsu

(Design based on Basilisk character Okoi)

Shiori was a gifted catclan kunoichi, skilled in all of the arts of acquisitions, infiltration, and taijutsu.  She operated under the name, Kitkaa, up until she was inducted as co-leader of the clan as Catwoman when she married current leader; Catman, Katashi Nekojin.  This marriage quickly became one in name only when it came to her interaction with Katashi romantically.  After years of neglect, she sought out the attention of others, the overwhelming majority of which were afraid to return, for fear of retribution from her very possive and jealous husband.  Batman was one who was unafraid, but despite his strong attraction to her, he honored her status as a married woman.  His chivalry made her seek his attention that much more, and she began to commit thefts just to continue their “cat and mouse” game of chase.  By the same token, Shiori enjoyed testing her skills by breaking into seemingly impenetrable strongholds, just to prove that she could.  Katashi never challenged her as far as that was concerned, as it only helped to advertise their clan’s infiltration and acquisitions capabilities.  She went too far when she decided to infiltrate the Imperial Palace and steal the feudal lord’s crown jewel, the Eye of Bast.  Batman helped to retrieve the stolen item, but for the crime of humiliating the Feudal Lord, she was sentenced to the harsh punishment of being banished to Arkham Island.

Red Hood: Real Name: Jotaro Kagehane

Group Affiliation: Solo; former: Shadowwing Clan, Batclan, Assassin Clan, Red Hand, All Caste

Abilities: Stealth, assasination, kenjutsu, taijutsu

(Design based on Naruto Character, Itachi Uchiha)

Jotaro Kagehane was born into the prestigious Shadowwing Clan.  As Redwing, he was one of the most skilled shinobi the clan ever produced; advancing further than most, in much less time.  His skill however, led to him being unruly and difficult to rein in and keep in line.  The Batman was persuaded by Onishusoku, The Demon’s Head, to take him on as an apprentice. He owed the League of Shadows leader for facilitating his apprenticeship under the legendary shinobi, Grey Ghost, and this was the way for him to repay that debt.  Despite his attempts to train him, Redwing was headstrong, insubordinate, and prone to losing control.  In following his own rules, he wound up in a trap set by the Assassin Class shinobi Joker, and held for ransom.  Jotaro attempted to escape, and hurt his captor in the process.  As a result of injuring him, Joker threatened to eradicate his entire clan.  The deadline passed and the ransom demand was not met by Jotaro’s clan.  Batman arrived just in time to witness Redwing’s death and Joker’s escape. A week later, the entire Shadowwing Clan was wiped out, except for Jotaro’s younger brother, Nightwing.  Year later, Nightwing would be taken on as an apprentice of the Batman, and he would cross paths with the shinobi sensei of team of assassins calling himself, The Red Hood.  After returning home from their time forming the Teen Titans after their Sensei’s banishment for needing to learn responsibility and how to get along; Nightwing find out that hi sensei has been kidnapped.  He tracks down the Red Hood, and battles past his apprentices Azrael, Huntress, and Hush to get to him.  When he does, Red Hood reveals that he is Nightwing’s older brother, Jotaro, Batman’s first apprentice.   Jotaro wanted revenge on the Batman for leaving him for dead and at the Joker’s (lack of) mercy.  He alibied Joker for the Shadowwing massacre, as he took responsibility for taking out his own clan members; feeling they abandoned him when he was sent to apprentice for Batman, and none of them made any attempt to pay his ransom when he was taken by Joker, or avenge him…except for Daisuke, who was too young to do anything.  Nightwing changes his vow to avenge the brother he thought he lost, to taking out vengeance on him.  During their fight, Batman frees himself and prevents Red Hood from killing Nightwing.   Now aware of the Red Hood's true identity, Batman decides to neutralize him as a threat without taking his life, and drops him on Arkham Island.

Poison Ivy:

Real Name: Tsutari Gaidoku

Group Affiliation: Bloodroot

Abilities: bonded to vampiric tree, Jubokko; flora manipulation, plant creature creation, poison kiss
(design based on Meer Campbell of Gundam: Seed Destiny)

Tsutari grew up on a farm with her family on the outskirts of Goth-Ahm Prefecture.  She witnessed their slaughter at the hands of bandits, who chased her into The Shinobi Forest, where she sought refuge from her pursuers in the Haunted Woods sector.  It was here that she was transformed into the half plant hybrid warrior, Poison Ivy; and where she would begin her crusade to purge and protect The Green from the scourge that is humanity.  Tasked with the nurturement and protection of Jubokko, The Vampire Tree, Poison Ivy began to reestablish the dominion over the forest and the plant life that was now under her protection as well as that of Aaimuzxi, The Cactus Demon.  Any violators answered to her, and those who were unrepentant were fed to Jubokko. Jubokko began to slowly reestablish its root network throughout the forest, allowing Ivy the ability to "see" the happenings in the different parts of the forest. She would come into confrontation with The Batman when the Daimyo ordered some trees cut down to make weapons of war for and impending confrontation.  Some of the Daimyo’s officials would try to warn him of the peril of offending the forest spirit, but he would not have his will deterred.  She dealt with the first expedition by seducing the ranking officer with her pheromone kiss, into ceasing all actions.  This was only temporary, as when word got back, he was stripped of his command and the process recommenced.  She then began to attack the loggers with her flora manipulation and plant creature creation, hoping to scare them off.  When that didn’t work, she attempted to tackle the problem head on, and attempted to assassinate the Daimyo herself.  She came close, but Batman’s intervention (alongside the samurai Royal Guard, led by Jin Gaikoku), led to her having to retreat back to the forest.  She then decided she had no other recourse but to take out ALL of the humans in the prefecture, by releasing deadly spores.  Realizing how serious a threat she was after stopping her plot, Batman decides to transport her to Arkham Island, for everyone’s safety…including her own.

Killer Croc:

Real Name: Wani Kurokaido
Group Affiliation: Demon Beasts of Goth-Ahm

Abilities: Merged with the legendary demon beast, Tokageki, the Demon Crocodile; control over alligators,

(Design based on Ninja Scroll character, Tessai)

Long ago, two demon beasts faced each other, and the battle raged for weeks.  Eventually, one demon fell victim to the other.  As its body plunged into what would become known as the Miller’s Harbor, Wani Kurokaido, an unsuspecting fisherman capsized into the water with the resulting wave that came with it.   After resurfacing, Wani slowly became overcome by the essence of Tokageki, the Demon Crocodile; both spiritually and physically, as leaked blood from its corpse had washed over him, after it fell in battle to the legendary Demon Bat; A-Komoriyasha.  The demon within compelled the fisherman to devour victims; fuelling its slow return to its former status.  The villagers near the river that fed into the harbor named the creature, Killer Croc.  Years later, Croc would also eventually develop an unyielding urge to kill the avatar of the demon bat; The Batman, after crossing paths with him.   Batman was pursuing a crew of bandits who had been targeting villagers who lived near the river.  They sought to escape over the water; beliving the legends of it being haunted would cause him to give up the chase… it did not.  When one was yanked into the waters, they tried to turn back begging for the capture they once sought to escape.  Batman attempted to rescue them as they were picked off, one by one.  He was able to wrestle back the last one from the monster’s clutches when it was struck with familiarty from the Dark Knight.  Realizing its connection to the creature that had killed it in its previous form, Killer Croc experienced a sense of dred alongside an even more powerful murderous compulsion of revenge.  The Demon Crocodile’s host tried to devour Batman, but he was able to utilize his shinobi skills to get to the safety of dry land.  However Croc followed him.  They fought, but Croc cleary overpowered him.  Batman decided it was one of those times where he could use some assistance, and used his medallion to summon A-Komoriyasha.  Seeing the Demon Bat in its full sate, Croc was terrified and enraged.  However, the Demon Bat decided he would not step in, and instead wished to see the outcome of this rematch with the avatars.  He told the astonished Batman, that if he could not hold his own against the creature that he himself had already bested then, he perhaps wasn’t worthy of the title; Shadow of the Bat.  The two reengaged in battle, and although Croc was more powerful and deadly, Batman was able to use his skills to outsmart and best him in battle.  The proud Demon Bat offered to devour Croc, but was amenable when Batman suggested he take him to Arkham Island as an alternative.

- The Oiran is a class that exhibits the courtesan skills of the Geisha, as well as the sexual favors of the Yujo in Japan.
- The Tale of Oiwa is a Japanese folktale of an abused woman who is disfigured and comes back to haunt her tormentor.

- Two-Face’s role in the Yakuza, in addition to claiming the position of Oyabun of her area, is that of Yurita; in which she has established control of all of the Oiran and Yujo (street prostitutes) in Goth-Ahm Prefecture.  She is similar in power structure to The Widow in, Into the Badlands.

- After surviving the assassination attempt of the ninja that killed his parents and subsequently taken in by disgraced samurai, Akifimi Takaharu; Frustration with his training, led to young noble, Komori Watanabe leaving the dojo and taking to the streets.  He was the young boy who had joined with their group of genshunin and became close friends with Hekomi, fighting to keep her from being taken.

- The Genshunin are a network of orphaned minors who live on the streets and in the sewer and operate as pickpockets, purse-snatchers, cutthroats, and street hustlers.  They report to, Kokuo no Gesuidou; The Sewer King.  Children are required to gain permission from him to operate on the streets, and submit a portion of their earnings to him.

- I’ve added some elements to Two-Face’s outfit, including the two-tone neck choker ribbon, and the one around the obi of her kimono.  I also added the wrist gauntlets and changed the color of the stocking on her tattooed side.  I also made her lipstick two-toned.

- When Freeze activated the Gelömagarde his eyes took on the deep dark blue of one who had fully embraced the Heart of Ice philosophy required to master the Sword of Sommersa, however, after losing any chance to ever to be with Ailanöra, he was so filled with emotions of love, loss, rage, and hate…that his eyes now emit a deep red hue.

- I have another design in mind for Master Freeze which will utilize elements of his Dark Knights Metal design and sword.

- Riddler might possibly have another secret child younger than Question who will be based on the Teen Titans, GO! comic character, Kwiz Kid.

- Catwoman took on the alias of Miss Kitka in the original Adam West Batman film.  I decided she would need to be called omething before acquiring the title of Catwoman, and went with that.  It is an abriviation of Kit(ty) Kat, which I didn’t want to use for obvious reasons.

- Each of the escapees has a specific skill that is necessary to facilitate their escape from the seemingly inescapable island…even though Joker has escaped before.

- Red Hood lied to Nightwing initially about being responsible for their clan’s murder as he had intentions for him to take his place in The Red Hand, and he needed him to be harder; as well as not think the group was responsible and attempt to take them on himself…and die as a result.

- It is after the Escape from Arkham that he returns to the Batcaves to reveal his intentions to have Nightwing take his place in the Red Hand.  But before he can, Batman shares what his detective work had uncovered; Red Hood was NOT responsible for the Shadowwing Clan massacre.  Red Hood proceeds to reveal that it was in fact the work of the Red Hand itself.

- This news puts Daisuke in the mental state Jotaro was attempting to avoid, which now had him fearful of his capability to survive his tenure with the organization.  When Robin steps up to take his place, he only hesitates ever so briefly before accepting him as a suitable replacement.

- Once freed from his obligations to The Red Hand, Red Hood seeks out a path of redemption, and travels within and outside of the boarders of Hitoshirenu. It is on this mission that he saves and begins to train with the unstable victim of the Kamen no Shikai member Professor Pyg, the kunoichi, Crimson.

- Ivy is torn in her feelings towards Batman.  She hates him for impeding her cause, as well as rejecting her physically…but she also admires that he is strong enough to resist her wiles.

- Batman’s mental training under Yoru-Senei, Kirigi-Sensei, and Zatara has granted him the strength to resist Ivy’s pheromones, but he is still succeptible to her toxic kiss.

- When exposed to her toxic kiss, Batman was on the verge of death, until Catwoman was able to discretly provide the ingredients for an antitoxin.  Ivy was in disbelief at his recovery, and unaware of how he was able to survive.  She just attributed it to the same strength that she believed allowed for him to resist her mind control; that he was the Shadow of The Bat.

- It is after the Escape from Arkham that Ivy begins to establish Bloodroot.

- Killer Croc acquires a companion who is also demon in the form of a young female child named, Kawa-akago. She cries by the riverbank until she is assisted by good Samaritans, and then drowns them.  Croc observed this for a while before approaching her.  When he did, she tried to drown him, and although she was initially frustrated by her inability to do so, she found herself enamored by the idea that her demonic compulsion to drown anyone that got too close to her would no longer be able to keep her living her lonely existence.

- Although they were part of the original picture, I didn’t have room to fit Phantasm and Joker.  I will do another follow up which will include them, as well as; Scarecrow, Bane, Harley Quinn, and Anarky.
