yes i've stopped here many times makes for a good rest stop on me way back home ..this furnace was once inside a much larger building a 100 years ago ..its so pretty here and it hard to believe a hundred years ago this whole area had no trees and the air was filled with soot you could see more than a hundred yards they say ...i'm glad that when they switched to steel from iron they decides to set up in Pittsburgh yay Β or this area would be no longer the beautiful quiet NW of ct summer homes to many wall street bankers, tv/movie stars and musicians Β Β

Honestly how did they survive even a week breathing in them conditions?Β ( And that was the entire outside too; enveloping how far an area? )

well there was no OSHA in those days ..life expectancy was sadly quite low ..there was no welfare or unemployment ..it was work or starve in those days they were also poorly educated so where ever they went low paying dirty jobs was their only avenue ...Β Β

Yeah... so very sadly true.Β Scary thing, really. especially in these times when jobs are getting harder and harder to find; more and more people being born..
