Description Some further garden bird photographs obtained using my Canon EOS M5 control from afar by a Samsung smart phone.

Male goldfinch feeding.

Hidden GemsAfter only 1 year, I have managed to investigate and to get working one of the major features of my Canon EOS M5 mirrorless camera: the WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities such that the camera can be linked wirelessly to my smart phone, in this case a Samsung S8. I had tried this when I first bought the camera, but got hopeless lost trying to set it up. Now, with more determination, I have managed it. The upshot is that I can remotely control and fire the M5 from the smart phone. Given that WiFi and Bluetooth communications cam take place over 10s of meters, I need not be any where near the camera in order to operate it. The result is that I can set up the camera near wildlife, go away and be out of sight, yet take shots when something interesting comes into range. Basically, that is how I have been taking the recently posted shots of garden birds and intruders such as those below.

Species come and go, depending on anumber of factors. In urban areas more people put out more feeders and attract more birds so we see them more.

I'm sure he would agree, Linda! They have discovered our feeders and flock here almost every day. Not so long ago, goldfinches were very rare in this part of the world.

Many Thanks

that combination is working, allowing a safe space for your birds without your encroaching into their flight space. this can only lead to better capture of your images......

You read about these things in books and articles, Mike, but it is only when you can do it yourself that you appreciate the difference.

Many Thanks

what kind of Goldfinch is this? because the ones at my feeder don't look like this

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Okavanga In reply to SeekerDestroy [2018-01-28 06:54:00 +0000 UTC]

I believe this to be the European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis). As I understand it there are different subspecies in most parts of the world, so not all plumages will be the same. In addition, juveniles may look different from adult birds. I checked on goldfinches in the US, and you have the American goldfinch which has a much more extensive yellow plumage: www.audubon.org/search_results… and belongs to a different species Spinus tristis.

Hope that helps.

Many Thanks

David
