Description New ArrivalsA few weeks ago in my Journal "Cat Mews" Cat Mews I mentioned that we had acquired two Maine Coon kittens, Sam and Tabitha, to share our home at Elderslie. They were too young at the time to leave their breeder's house, but some 10 days ago we brought them home with us and I thought you might like to see them. Remember that these kittens are only some 14 weeks old, but they are not far off the size of a small fully grown cat already. They weigh about 2.5 kilos and are over 24 inches long nose to tail tip. They are expected to grow to between 8 and 9 kilos and will be 3 foot plus in length.
Here they are looking prim and proper as if butter would not melt in their mouths. They enjoy play fighting a great deal, but remain very bonded to one another usually sleeping curled up together.

Thank you, M, although Sam might not think he is such a cutie while engaged in this activity!

Agreed and that is a very neat way of putting it, M, We always anthropomorphise their behaviour, but they are happy in their cat world and that becomes the "bright-eyed, bushy-tailed" look.

Many Thanks

David

Looks like a panther with the elongated face here, David!

He does, Sheri, I totally agree. We'll have to see how long that lasts as Maine Coon faces tend to flatten as they grow up. But, at the moment, he has quite the leonine look.

Many Thanks

David

We will see. I have seen some who keep the look. Not sure what in the bloodline would do that.

Indeed. His brother, Mack, who lives with a friend of mine here, has the same facial look at the moment. So, we will be able to compare as time goes by.

Wow, the size of them paws!!  And that face!  His facial shape resembles quite strongly that of a lion, you can really see it in this shot! He is one special boy alright; just gorgeous, too! !!!

There is definitely something of the wild about Maine Coons that hides under the affectionate nature. Yo are correct, Linda, that there is something leonine about the face. I think Sam will grow up to be a real softie, but you can never tell.

Many Thanks

Many lions have been shown in films, capable of being "real softies" as well.  Yet, it does not change the fact they can kill in a heartbeat.  ... I predict Sam, (both of them but especially Sam) are going to be very protective of you.   You'll have to keep us updated about that..

Will do, Linda. This morning he is being Mr Hyperactive, Mr Explorer and Mr Softee all at once.

Good point, Lucy. Maine Coon cats have very large paws when fully grown. Fortunately, they are very gentle cats!

Many Thanks
