Appearance: Noni is quite small and compact, close to a Section A Welsh Pony in appearance. His coat is a muted brown with a smattering of paler hairs running from his eyes down either side of his neck. His mane and tail are thick and fall straight, and his expressions range from quizzical to shy smiles and awkward grins. He is very short, especially when compared to the other Wraiths who are, for the most part, very tall and large.

Personality: Noni is a fairly meek Wraith, shy and withdrawing by nature. He likes people and enjoys spending his time with friends and being social, but he is very skittish and gets quite nervous when forced into confrontations. When he is challenged or demeaned, he usually prefers to withdraw and tiptoe out of the picture rather than risk any verbal or physical battles. He loves cuddling up to larger Wraiths and forms attachments very easily.

History: Once a young servant boy in a castle, Noni has known nothing but servitude his whole life. Orphaned from a young age, he became an indentured servant in the castle his mother had been a maid of, working hard to earn his keep. The other servants were nice enough to him, but he was rather runty and somewhat clumsy so he often found himself earning punishments and extra work, and the other servants soon learned to stay away from him for fear of gaining his ill luck.

As he reached his teen years, he caught the eye of a young noble in the castle -- one who was fairly distant from the royal line but who held favour due to his special abilities. The nobleman, a potioneer prodigy, took a liking to the young servant boy and began to groom him, giving him little sweet treats he wasn't allowed and whispering affectionate little ditties to the attention-starved servant. Noni quickly grew attached to the older man and he began to actively take an interest in the noble's work, watching what the older man did and sneakily testing some of the more experimental potions when the noble wasn't watching.

Noni's first death was a direct result of one of these potions. As he lay dying, deaf to the frantic calls of his name from the nobleman, Noni found himself looking at a beautiful pale horse, finer than any he had seen except in the distance, ridden by the King and his family. When the horse began to speak to him, offering a second chance at life in exchange for an eternity of service after death, Noni agreed without a second thought. After all, service was all he had known, and better the demon you knew...

As he slowly came awake, Noni found himself clasped to the noble's chest, the frantic potioneer fussing endlessly over him and sobbing over his assumedly dead body while one of the castle medics stood to the side with a few young servant girls, all of them looking tired but resigned. However when Noni came gasping alive in the potioneer's arms, the other occupants of the room quickly snapped to attention, fear and horror in their eyes. The servant girls fled, screaming about the dead coming back to life, while the medic quickly rushed in to assess the reborn servant boy. The medic left soon after, muttering about impossibilities, but the nobleman took no notice, too relieved and pleased that his companion was not dead. Noni himself was pleased to find himself back in the presence of the noble and he was more than happy to stay at the noble's side, helping with the potioneer's work. All seemed well...

Until the King's guards came by, shouting about necromancy and dark magic. The noble was dragged away to be tried and executed for dabbling in the magic of life and death (after all, what else could explain a servant boy dying then coming alive again minutes later?), and as for Noni.... well.

The dead had to be returned to the afterlife.

After his throat was slit by one of the guards, Noni woke up as a little horse, all gangly legs and confusion. It took a while for him to settle into his life as a Wraith, and he initially simply followed at the heels of the Minders, a shy and awkward presence. However his magic capability soon became apparent, and he was soon passed into the care of the Head Mage, Vasilli.

Other Notes:
Noni's magic is very strong – perhaps the strongest of the current living mages – but it is temperamental and impossible for him to fully control. It isn't helped by his nerviness and his fear of the current Head Mage.
Noni was very close to the previous Head Mage, Vasilli, when the other Wraith was still alive. Being of similar builds and having a similar background, Vasilli took Noni under his wing, quite happily becoming the younger Wraith's self-appointed mentor and closest friend. Noni was heartbroken when he found out Vasilli was dead. It's not known, but he keeps a sliver of Vasilli's broken heartstone on him; the rest of it lies in the Valley of the End.
