Description

Surya - concept of short sword.

White tigers are very rarely found in the wild. In about 100 yeas only 12 white tigers have been seen in the wild habitats of India. They are almost extinct and most of the ones living are in captivity, mainly in zoos. This specific tiger is neither an albino or a seperate subspecies of the tiger. They are simply white colored and have black stripes that makes them special. It has blue eyes and a pink nose. It also has prestine white colored fur. The white tiger is born to a bengal tiger that has the recessive gene needed for white coloring. A pure white tiger has no stripes and are completely white in color.

This work I began as a speedwork but hadnt been able to finish it at one session. I had to extended time to complete it. On the other hand I had more time for smaller details. Structure is - again - simplier to shorten time of modeling.  Size is between long dagger and short sword.

Whole job was done in 3ds max + photoshop. Model is highpoly and rendering engine is my favourite - Vray.  I did only one picture this time with three looks.

What do you think? Do you like it? Thank you for comments if any and bye.

P.

I don't mean to brag, but I am a big ancient warfare buff. Vikings especially. But I am nothing but impressed with your work, which is why I'm a subscriber. This particular sword is slick and fashionable, but looks very sturdy and reliable. And the addition of the Lion on the pommel was a very good idea. It almost makes me think of English swords from the iron ages, slim but sturdy, made from tough iron. This is an impressive work of art, but I have a challenge for you; using the techniques you have, make something a Viking would be using.

I would like to ask: How do you get the details on the sword?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterku In reply to JoeAdams1998 [2017-07-19 07:53:40 +0000 UTC]

How. usual way is to use bump map or dispalce map. for those details which dont go deep into or high above surface is enough bump map. (on the sword I used it on handle.) If it go deep inside or high above surface then it is better to use displace map. (circle sign of tiger for example.).

You seem really partial to making short weapons with longer grips/pommels
If you ever intend to make a physical one of these, I might advise either shortening the pommel or lengthening the blade, as a long pommel on a shortsword can seriously decrease the mobility/ screw up the balance of the weapon. The current length of your grip/pommel is appropriate probably a 1.5 handed sword, which would be 30-50 inches long for the blade (blade being the section BELOW the crosspiece.) Your piece "Inti-main" is a good example for proportions of a 1.5 hand sword (Although the blade width makes me EXTREMELY nervous, I can see it breaking if used for anything other than stabs)
Your stuff is really legit visually, though, and would be super hella in a fantasy video game where you don't really have to worry about those kinds of things. I just wanted to give you a few pointers in case you wanted to introduce a little more realistic vibe into your weapons.

Experience: 4 months of LARP, two foamsmithing weapons, and a whole lot of senpai who love to talk smack about fantasy swords.

tnx. its not as you think. I am not making 1.5 hand swords or short blade ones. I;m intended to make them normal but I am doing them with wrong proportions i am just not able to give them right proportion most of the time.

The hilt and blade look great, but I'm not sure about the thin, bladelike pommel. It looks too thin to be an effective counterweight, and the pointed shape essentially gives your opponent the ability to stab you with your own sword.
