Description English Lit references all up the whazoo! Shakespeare FTW, yo.

Kids, don't use the term "sausagefest" in your book reports, though, 'mmkay? (though it personally amuses me like hell.)

I'm gonna say the "Midsummer Madness" somewhat recollected here was our 'Shakespeare 101'.

And Sarah is learning to be quite weasellish with the truth... Bruised nose directly resulting from last week's page - Luna "Episkey"'d the pain and actual break away, but it still marked something fierce.
Although she also kinda fails at seeing a parallel... something about a king with unfairly biased bad press...

"Teach not thy lip such scorn; for it was made
For kissing, lady, not for contempt. "
Richard III, I.ii

The dweeby British teacher character played by John Oliver on 'Community'... iirc.

also... this page was easily the hardest and most fun one for me to reference.Β  I got to research classic film representations of Titania, Lady Anne AND Lady Macbeth

I wouldn't really call it "research", I just like to show where the characters are from and other representations of the character.Β  in some cases, the character is only from one movie ever, so its easy. In other cases, you off-handedly mention Sherlock Holmes, so I know what I'm doing for the next month.

'pimp-slapped' -- 'sausagefest' -- it's slightly amusing/alarming when even the French characters have a wider American(?) vocabulary than I do...Β

What's the significance of the random Christine's-hair panel 5 with the dark background -- just a bit of extra dialogue-space below?

And yes, the way things have been going, Jareth probably DOES have a personal connection of some kind with Titania!

I have this suspicion that Shakespeare scenes, like the Bible, can be used to back up almost any desired point of view (you've already pointed out an alternate interpretation of that choice of play), in which case Sarah's preferred analysis possibly says more about Sarah than about ChristineΒ

Β

I have a feeling that death-by-Erik probably isn't quoted for in Raoul's life insurance, not least because it would make said insurance cover very difficult to obtain... (not sure one can get dedicated personal death threats included under 'acts of God'?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pika-la-Cynique In reply to Igenlode [2013-11-08 22:41:10 +0000 UTC]

If it's any comfort, those are both fairly squeaky-new additions to my own vocabulary. ^^

Extra panel is, yeah, because there is a shift in conversation focus and Sarah's expression no longer fits the dialogue.

I wonder if there are life insurances clauses you can get related to having a murderer with a grudge in your life, or repeat incidents of suspicious accidents...

And... ? Did we lose the outcome of these auditions in Jareth's jump?? Or did Jareth interfere with the auditions, and Sarah had to kick over the drama club??

My is that Erik isn't actively bugging the girls' apartment. Between his redemption and Mag and the Sneakoscope, he doesn't have reason / capacity for it. Jareth's peripheral keep-his-future-queen-and-her-friend-safe stuff is all intact, even if hovering at a slightly greater distance.

Annnnyyyy way, I really like Sarah's face in the fourth line. I don't know what it is, but I just really really like it. Maybe it's partly the different hairstyle and/or how she's TRYING to keep the conversation away from "wait... what guy at the guy" type of questions...

/carry-on.

Hell, I passed my highschool writing test with the phrase "cum-guzzler".

lol, loving the Shakespeare references! One time I was in a haunted house, and the room was supposed to be like a human butchery shop, and this girl jumps out with a mask and a fake human leg ("AURGH!" and all that jazz), and while everybody behind me was screaming, I was all like, "Ooh, ooh, this is like that Shakespeare play! What's it called, what's it called...TITUS ANDRONICUS!" And she said in reply, "You should go now..." lol.

I'm not an actor, stage or otherwise, but I've been given to understand that none of them would ever refer to that play by its proper name. Rather, it's always "The Scottish Play" and since Sarah *is* an aspiring stage actress... yeah, it looks a little odd.

Pika-la-Cynique In reply to unscripted009 [2012-07-18 20:21:44 +0000 UTC]

I know of that superstition, still, I'd rather assume it's not until it's underway/not while in the theatre. While talking to an outsider possibly unfamiliar with the English lit canon, no need to be unnecessarily confusing.
