Description
Her name is Stitches and I love her.She doesn't believe that - she says it is an improbability.
She doesn't say impossibility and that gives me hope.
No one but me knows why she's called Stitches.
I've run my hands over her soft white skin,
Flushed with the fevers of midnight.
I've touched it.
I've let my fingertips explore the hitches in her skin,
Where her body couldn't quite heal itself.
Old memories of gaping holes and vicious lies.
From her shoulder to her wrist,
From her knee to her ankle,
Any where she can negotiate a knife - she is Stitches.
It makes her cry sometimes.
She says she doesn't like being a rag doll any more.
They're old scars, robbing her flesh of its innocence,
Betraying her old soul - etching it out - a tally on her skin.

She draws a thick red line under everything
and tries to start again.
She doesn't like to be touched some nights,
I see her paper skin crawling at my soft kisses
and roll over to feign sleep.
It's not her fault, the pain of the scars won't fade,
The scars that the stitches can't mend.
Her name is Stitches and I love her.
The girl with the Frankensteined heart.

My cousin Elrond is a voracious self-harmer. It's thrown a wrench in many of the opportunities he has had presented to him. Reading this effected me in a way I can't quite explain. It made me think of his wife, Jess. She has never judged him for his scars, even though sometimes he practically begs her to. He doesn't understand how someone could love him for who he is, not what he's done to himself. Everyone else in his life has been really rough on him about his scars. They kept trying to "change" him and to "make him better". No one but myself and his Jess has ever just accepted that this is how he is, and how he deals with stress. We may want him to stop hurting himself, but we're never going to force our opinions on him. We love him for the way he is.
Long story short: I really enjoy this piece.

I am so glad... I was 'Stitches', I still am. She is me, I am her. This poem I suppose was my subconscious trying to pin down the possibility that even broken I am lovable... and I think thats why people relate to it.

its sadly my nick name... for a couple of reasons one because stitch saved my life and now i collect them, the other is much longer much more complicated

"The first night I met Scar (GOD, I wish I could use her real name, it’s so much prettier) I asked her about her scars. I ran my hand along her arm and felt the scars. Scars that came from cutting herself.
She said with a smile, “I like them. They remind me where I came from. I’m better now.”
I fell MADLY in love with her that night and as I have come to know her better, it only gets deeper. A TRULY remarkable spirit in the world."

Don't be sad. Stitches is 99% me, .5% every one i ever met, and .5% a woman called Scar, who an amazing photographer called `Pelicanh posted a beautiful photograph of, here on DA. that photo has now been removed but you can find it [link] < there. Be WARNED it includes nakedness!
The quote under the pic was the artists description when it was posted, and it gave a lot of people, including me, hope that despite all the damage someone could still find us beautiful.
Theres no shame being a Stitches, or a Scar... especially when you know there are others out there.

mine arent as...defined i would say. i heal very very quickly. some times when im really bad off, i go find random ppl usually drunk ppl, and pick a fight with them. it seems the only scars i have outwardly are along my knuckles where a knife cut me ( a tattoo covers it now) and the large scar along my skull.but it seems know matter how bad or how vicious the person is i seem to always get up and always walk away. i dont always want to. and im not sure why im telling you this...
