Commissioned by =Majime as a gift for =Nanuka . This is Nanuka's character, Sonar -- some kind of fennec fox/osprey mix. This is my first attempt making a sculpture like this, and my first try sculpting wings.This figurine is 4.5" tall, 3.5" wide, and 5" long. It's super sculpey over an armature of aluminum foil and wire, and painted with acrylics. The bell is about 7/8th-inch metal jingle bell sculpted right into the figure.

That's right! I sculpted the body first, baked it, and then added the wings. Sculpey is so smooshy that I try to bake it as I go along so I don't destroy bits I've already worked on.

Ok. so you did a skeleton in wire first? or did you begin with Aliminium foil for the base? And after that, Did you use any type of clay? You said you baked it?

Oh! Yes, first I made a wire frame, then I covered the frame with foil. The clay I used is a polymer clay called Sculpey, which stays soft until you bake it in the oven. Since it can be baked repeatedly, I could work on the sculpture in stages without destroying stuff I'd already built. :3
Once it was baked, I painted it. The bell is part of the armature, so that was there from the beginning.

Oh whew, I'm so glad you got it! I was worried because I didn't hear anything from either of you. I'm so sorry to hear the toes came off, though! I've never had a sculpey thing break in the mail before. OTL But the good news is, they go back together really well with plain old super glue. OTL OTL OTL

Whats the difference between Sculpey and Super Sculpey? they have Sculpey at the local major craft shop here but i've never seen anything that says "super" sculpey on it though.

....you know, I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, actually. Looking about the internet, I can't really find any good answers. I think that Super Sculpey holds details a little better than Classic Sculpey, but who knows. x_x I tend to buy it just because it's more easily available than classic at the art stores where I shop, haha.

This is adorable. I love how you did the backs of the wings, especially. Wings are hard to sculpt. They're too flat and long, and have lots of details. It's nigh impossible unless you're working with sculpey (which I can't afford).
And I love the character as well. XD It isn't often you see the paws in front and the bird legs in back (which makes sense, really).
