I wanted to capture the feel of a gloomy marsh, with dim spots of light filtering through the miasma, and then place the action in one of those spot lights.

can you get the same result with oils instead of acrylics ?

this is the last question, i promise
but do you find it easier to do illustrations with oils or acrylics ?
or is it that acrylics allow you to work on smaller sized surfaces ?

They both have their benefits - oils can do fine detail too. I guess acrylics have a robustness, and flexibilty, whilst oils have the blending and soft edges.
