Description Like most people who saw The Hobbit, my first thought upon laying eyes on Kili was, "Damn, that is one good-looking dwarf!"

Unlike most people, my second thought was, "I wonder if I can make those bracers."

The answer is yes, as much as is possible without metalworking anyway. (Metalworking: not a hobby my downstairs neighbors would like me to take up, I'm sure. The leatherworking is bad enough already.)

Sourcing issues have been ironed out, so they are up for sale at my site again: [link]

Hi Rassaku,
Are you intending to offer these for sale again, or have you stopped your run on them?

My shop has been mostly closed because I'm back in school, but I'm currently taking orders to fill over the winter holidays, so if you're still interested, email me at gabriel@rassaku.net and we can hash it out.

Sourcing issues~! The first couple pairs I made, I was making the lacing myself out of very thin leather that I had kicking around. When that ran out, it was suddenly all but impossible to get more, so I've been working that out.

I did find a substitute though, so they should be up again soon!

Those are nice. Come time my tax return comes in, I may have to get a pair of these. My sister and I are going to cosplay as Fili and Kili for DragonCon 2013.

Excellent! After putting up Kili's bracers I promptly got a commission for Fili's, so that's what's sitting half-complete on my workbench right now. Did you know they have a built-in knife sheath? It's really cool.

I would love to see Fili's when they are done. I think just by looking at him, that his outfit will be harder to make.

I can only speak for the leather end of things, but his bracers have more of the stitching and tooling that makes Thorin's bracers take longer (and cost more). What I *really* like is their quivers, or what you can see of them in the shoulder straps -- not once in the movie do you get a shot of Kili from behind to see what his quiver looks like!

(Now I'm picturing some poor propmaker who poured their love and talent into making that quiver, only for it to never appear in the movie.)

That is very true. The clothing part of this won't be too hard. I am use to sewing and those look like nothing to make.

LOL, that's what my roommate walked out of the theatre saying: "Knits! So many knits! I guess we know what dwarves do in their free time."

If I have the time, I would really like to do an extrapolation of what Kili's quiver probably looks like, given the rest of his ensemble. Though knowing my luck, they'd probably show us his back in the next movie and it'd all get jossed.

Yeah. Knits and some looked like wool. Warm clothing, but not hard at all.

That would be awesome to see. But I know what you mean by luck. Same thing happens to me.

Thorin is hotter xD Or at least more regal. for the second movie I'm going as Thorin xD

rassaku In reply to Shortwinger [2013-01-02 03:25:04 +0000 UTC]

Ohh, he certainly is, and he glowers like a champion. I'd seen the promo pictures, so I went in expecting Kili to be The Hot Dwarf, and then... holy cats, hello Thorin! I spent most of the rest of the movie examining his costume, and wishing I had the set-up to do metal casting.

Shortwinger In reply to rassaku [2013-01-02 05:02:36 +0000 UTC]

He sure does xD And, I actually found a picture of Fili and Kili together and it was captioned saying: "You either die a hot dwarf. Or live to see yourself get old and ugly" and I dies because I'm a nerd xD But I will agree, Kili was pretty hot, just, Thorin is just better all the way xD

DarqueJackal [2013-01-01 16:16:13 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you moved past the hottie dwarf reaction and got down to what is really important! These are some of the most attractive bracers I've seen online. The quality comes across in the pics.
