Mary genuinely cares about people. Even the shady and criminal types she typically sees coming out of the fight pits. She thinks the fighting they do is barbaric and seems to interject her opinion of the activity while helping her patients. She doesn't care for the sport and actively tries to get her patients to avoid the rings, but that doesn't mean she won't help them when they are in need. No matter who you are, she doesn't want people to suffer. Mary is a very hard worker and her determination to assist people drives her to work long hours and continue working even if she should have gone home. Though this is actually more negative in that she doesn't allow herself a lot of time to rest, she strives to give someone the best care and attention she possibly can.
While typically lighthearted and cheery Mary can be very stern, especially when it comes to behaviors and actions that could put others in danger. She has a low tolerance for gags and jokes and tends to take most situations very seriously. She cares about the well being of people but she won't stay quiet if she thinks someone is doing something stupid. She tends to judge people based on their decision making, their ability to consider other people, or their self-preservation. She recognizes this flaw but has found she tends to judge peers and allies if they come to a conclusion or a decision that she feels isn't the most optimal. Often she will share her opinion of a situation even if it isn't requested. Mary isn't likely to change. She's set in her ways and getting her to change even something like dinner plans is like pulling teeth. She's difficult to work with in an environment where she must work with others given her mindset of "my way or the highway". She's relied so much on her own psychic powers that getting help is almost a foreign concept.

History:
TLDR; Mary was a companion to a human ranger who worked with medicine and first aid to help wounded pokemon/humans. The human companion died in a forest fire and Mary left. She encountered Lilou who offered her a dittech and Mary went into medical school to become a surgeon. Mary left PMA-Co to join Apellon in order to help heal pit fighters (and persuade them to find other lines of work.)

Mary worked with a pokemon Ranger called Leah in Kalos. She helped her companion with protecting people, and pokemon with her barriers, and assisting with first aid. Mary took part in many rescues and brought help to people in environmental disasters or dealing with wild rampaging pokemon. There were some rangers who were used to fight angry pokemon, or to do a lot of the heavy lifting, but Mary's Leah worked behind the scenes. She used medicine and bandages to help people. She used her wits and her hands to heal and mend. Mary greatly admired that.

Over the years the psychic type learned a lot about first aid and medicine. She learned about human anatomy and tried her best to learn pokemon anatomy but there was a LOT! Still, she helped the ranger enough to learn how to deal with wounded pokemon and people on her own. So instead of staying by her trainer she would leave and go off to help others. Splitting up the work and effectively helping more wounded people and pokemon.

Until one night Mary was helping her Ranger during a forest fire... Mary left to go help some wounded pokemon that were pinned between a river and a raging fire. She collected the pokemon and brought them to safety but... Leah was missing. Mary searched high and low but Leah was never found. It was suggested that Leah fell into the river and was swept away or drowned. She was declared dead, though her body was never recovered. Mary was released and was free to stay with the rangers who she had grown to love or leave.

Mary left. The grief of losing her friend was a lot and though she wasn't going to give up on her pursuit to help others, she needed time to herself. It was in her grief Mary encountered a lilligant in the Kalos Pokemon Village who offered her ear and her time as Mary expressed what was upsetting her. After some time of talking, the lilligant revealed something strange. Lilou the Lilligant was human. And pokemon... Mary was a little dumbfounded, but Lilou explained what the device was and what it allowed her to do. Mary was instantly enthralled by the idea of becoming human. She could leave her worries behind and she could help many more people and pokemon than she could as a single Mr. Mime.

Mary accepted Lilou's offer and learned to become human in a very timely manner. It was after becoming human Mary set her sights on knowledge and education. Mary began the course of medical school, able to test out of many courses thanks to her time as a medic's companion, she breezed through the first years of schooling. A little more than a decade went by and eventually Mary was able to graduate and become a full time surgeon.

Mary typically focused on those who needed help in the pokehuman community but offered aid to any who needed it. When she became human the pokehuman community was small but growing. She's pleased to see the direction it is headed and is more than happy to offer her help.

Mary was a part of PMA-Co for several years after the Ursa Ring merged with the other factions. But she left for Apellon. Not for wealth or to pursue illegal activity, however. She learned about the fight pits and couldn't stand the thought of people pursuing that career with little access to medical assistance outside of a ring nurse.

Relationships:

Lilou: Mary appreciates the woman's charm and compassion. She's well put together, beautiful, and her leadership skills are something to be respected. But over the years her impression of the Lilligant has soured. Mary is extremely turned off by Lilou's continued support of the fight rings and isn't impressed by her sponsoring and encouraging fights. Mary finds the fight pits to be pretty barbaric and she's let this view affect how she sees other people. Mary enjoys the woman's company for the most part but cannot stand her involvement with the fight pits.

Ruthven: Mary enjoys the man's company and appreciates his patience and composure. She admires his entire image and his ability to work well with others. While she appreciates his ability to blossom at work, she's not above pointing out flaws or hiccups in his social life. She tends to judge even her peers, but dislikes Rune's arrogance and egotistical nature. If someone is bugging her, she will let them know, and she isn't above offering suggestions for his social interactions even if her opinion wasn't asked for.

Mary has mannequins that she keeps at the clinic. They're made of plastic and supported with steel rods. They can be kept cleaner than wood mannequins and Mary uses them as extra help. By putting her psychic energy inside them she can control them. This allows her to be in multiple parts of the clinic remotely from a single spot in the facility.

Mary's psychic energy appears in the form of threads. She's a master of wielding these psychic cords and has even used them as emergency sutures in the past.
