Thanks! It's certainly iconic for 1999

Excellent render. I do believe that you got the standard Eagle landing just right (at least when Koenig was the pilot).

They don't build starships like they used to! That is one rugged bird!

Yup, no kiddin'! I'm sure they'll have this one back in the air for next week's episode!

Most birds that need special care and feeding are called "Hangar Queens", the Eagles, now, they were CRATER Queens!

OUCH! it always hurts to see one of those crashed like that

Yeah... and we got to see it a lot. But I agree.... it looks lot sexier in flight

lordelpme [2011-03-26 19:35:20 +0000 UTC]

Carter didn't crash that often really, his problem was getting off the ground to defend the base. Technical problems/Alien interferance? Ha, fat chance.

Excellent piece mate.

Either way, it seems like the Eagle population should have been rapidly dwindling

Yeah, Carter did seem to crash, Kryten memorably put it, "more often than a ZX81".

Well, as wmconnors speculates, these guys were not cream of the crop pilots. They hauled garbage to a dump. That was their primary job, so these guys weren't the hot shots of the era. I think he makes a good point!

Ah yes. Some images are just classics - capturing the common place and making it seem unusual and unique. Well done.

I was thinking of you the whole time I was working.... and your reaction which would probably amount to, "AH! Accuracy at last!"

I had some or other thought like that.

I'm impressed that the Eagles were that sturdy, if able to get escape velocity from deep gravity wells, but able to slow enough to not be shredded by bad landings--any good one was one the participants could walk away from...Such harsh environments but still repairable. Did they ever have maintenance of equipment or short supply of critical repair units? I do not remember. The funny thing was the addition of late episode crew (where did these people come from?) or exotic females...but that seemed to be the fallback for a lot of television of the time and still is with episodic programming. Like Jeri Ryan as 7 of 9?

I think just about all TV SF was episodic, until about the late 90's. 1999's second season is totally different from it's first... and mostly in bad ways. But yeah, though they crashed lots, seems like usually let the crew survive, so that's quite a design achievement!

You're mean. Alan pulled out of alot of near-crashes, too. Seems to me the Commander crashed one or two also.
