Description
The Legate class is a lightweight destroyer, designed primarily to defend freighters and systems or to serve as the main component of an attack force. Regarded as the lightweight workhorse of the Cardassian fleet, this vessel is easy to produce, maintain, and can be operated by a relatively small crew.

The Legate class measures 234 m in length and 145 m in width. Its wings are equipped with an array of systems including weapon modules, impulse thrusters, and sensory systems. The warp core is strategically located at the rear of the vessel. In a nod to innovation, the wings house the antigrav units, utilizing their expansive surface area to enhance the ship's performance in atmospheric conditions. This unique feature has seen the Legate class frequently deployed as air support in ground battles—more so than other ships of its category—even though it wasn't specifically designed for such operations.

When it comes to armaments, the Legate class is well-outfitted. It boasts two forward-facing torpedo tubes, complemented by two heavy disruptors positioned at the outer edges of the wings. Additionally, it possesses two smaller disruptors on the front and a single, rear-facing disruptor for defensive maneuvers. While its shield strength falls within the average to slightly above average range for its class (a decision made to conserve energy and reduce crew requirements), the Legate class does have a notable shortcoming. It lacks advanced sensory and technical equipment. As a result, Legate-class ships are often paired with vessels such as the Culinor class to compensate for this deficiency.
