Description Folderband Buttons Mod for Windows 7.

Shellstyle.dll modification for Aero/Basic style - a companion for Explorer Toolbar Editor hb860.deviantart.com/art/Explo… or CustomExplorerToolbar. www.nirsoft.net/utils/custom_e…

[Screenshot shown using Explorer Toolbar Editor with default Aero shellstyle (top) and modified "No Help and No Preview Buttons" shellstyle (bottom)]

Note: This mod can also be used stand-alone without above utilities.

This modification makes the following adjustments to the folderband aka "command bar" area: [See screenshot]
1) Removes the Help and Preview Pane buttons.
a) Help button - help can easily be found elsewhere.
b) Preview Pane button - no longer a static item, but still available by default through the "Organize" menu, or as an option with either toolbar utility.
2) Horizontal button padding has been reduced.

Combined, these adjustments add extra space for more buttons and provide leeway before the overflow button initiates, depending on window size.

Note: Added an alternate shellstyle "No Help Button Only" that retains the Preview button (ideal for stand-alone use).

Instructions included. This is a simple shellstyle.dll swap. No need for any manual edits and no editing of system32 folder files.

Enjoy!

Hi man, I really like this mod. Would it be possible to get the modification as a .RES or something? I am using a custom theme and would like to preserve the Shellstyle.dll of it. Thanks!

Hey,

I didn't make a resource patch for this mod because it all depends on the custom theme's shellstyle. If the theme you are running does not have a modified shellstyle, you most likely will be able to use it with this one. Which custom theme are you using? I can take a look and let you know.

Ok, shellstyle matches default Aero, so it will work fine with this mod.

Hey man. Awesome modification. Would it be possible to share the modification in .res or something? I want to apply this modification to another theme that isn't the default Aero.

OK does it matter if I've patched the theme files and what theme I'm using. If not it should work shouldn't it, but it doesn't. How can I post screenshots for you.

Ok, send me a note and I'll try to help you troubleshoot the problem you're having. A screenshot probably isn't needed, just some details. The shellstyle absolutely works, so it's something else.

Hey I got it to work. I just copied shellstyle.dll into the current themes Normal Color folder that I'm using and it worked with that theme.

OK. First I changed my current theme to Windows Classic theme. Then I took ownership of
shellstyle.dll in the Normal Color folder and renamed it to shellstyle.dll.bak. I then copied shellstyle.dll from your theme folder to the Normal Color folder. Then I went back and activated my current theme but no changes. I tried rebooting to see if it would help and same thing. That's where I am right now and those are the exact steps I took. Your guess.
