Description A one day project. I was asked to do something generic...what exactly is generic? Acceptable to everyone? This is my generic

My thanks to =Tracie76Stock for allowing me to use her stock for reference. White Angel 5

9x13 (It was really hard working this small after getting used to a 14x17 paper. Loss of quality, details...and it still took me hours upon hours. Edited with an updated version after returning to the piece to adjust several issues I had with it (hands, hair, shading & original scan cut off one side short)

I'd love to illustrate a children's book! Such a welcome challenge it would be. Thank you

Damnit Sabis, your textures are awesome again!

The fluffyness of the teddy, the silkyness of the hair, the hard, shiny pearls and the skinny-ness(?) skin.

I felt like I was working in miniature, and here I thought I was losing too much texture detail. Thank you! I've decided after letting it sit for a day or so that I'll return to it and tackle some small problem areas. The bear was my own invention, and the texture really just an experiment. At one point it had course fur on half of it and the soft fuzziness on the other!

Pretty! But why is she so sad?

The child in the reference was a little sad, and I liked the contrast in emotion between emotions in the bear and the subject. Even little girls have moments where the comfort of a friend is needed, and the bear is happy to be there. An expression of love and trust, with childish innocence.

Awww, that's very cute. I think it's quite well-done. I can't help wondering why the girl looks so sad, though.

Our little ones have their moments, just like we do. I like emotive works, and this portrait was created without any pre-concept beyond having to include a teddy bear, and flowers. The end result was something far different then what I had initially set out to create. I felt compelled to create something that related the truth of childhood at times, the need for comfort and the wonder of a toy friend.

Very nice, the contrast in expression between the girl and the bear is quite striking.

I still owe you a note but bear with me!

Thank you. I cannot help but feel disappointed with my work of 2009 thus far, but I am told I am being too critical. 2008 was such a boom for my work, I feel I've somehow regressed! This is where I stop trying so hard and just draw, eh?

thats the right attitude....you don't regress you go in a different direction.
