Henhue Empire
The Henhue Empire resides in the southern and eastern hemispheres of the world. It shares a continent with the Kingdom of Syris , its mortal enemy. The government consists of a triumvirate of emperors, each with equal power and a right to rule based in divinity. These three sages, in all their wisdom, are entrusted with all governmental decisions involving the good of the Empire. It is an “Empire” because they have been engaging in world conquest since the country's inception, slowly but surely absorbing the neighboring villages and small towns around it. The Empire takes up half the continent today, but it is still acquiring new principalities. One target is the village of Wintaki near the border with Syris; Wintaki is believed to be an advantageous tactical position for Henhue due to its high cliffs and mountains. However, for now Wintaki is independent and refuses to assimilate with the expanding Empire.

We would say Henhue is the “oriental” country in the world. Henhue is most well known for their ninjas and samurais—fierce warriors whose speed and agility are unmatched by any military power anywhere. One of the more famous generals is Sir Basch Fon Ronsenberg . He recently took on a new protégé, a rookie named Zack Fair.

Henhue's most potent industries are that of tourism and entertainment, mainly due to the profuse residence of chocobos making a living in the area. The Empire also most frequently makes use of the arcane knowledge of Phrellia due to of nature of their society. After all, their rulers are said to have been blessed by the Gods, given a sacred treasure by divine right.

That sacred treasure is the Orexis Gemstone. This stone descended from the heavens and gifted the rightful rulers of the world with eternal life—according to ancient lore. …Well, it may not grant eternal life, but it does have a mystic property—it greatly prolongs the life of its holder by slowing aging. According to legend, the first three emperors and founders of Henhue received this gemstone from the gods and benevolently split it into three fragments. Fragmented, the influence of the stone's power lessened, divided into a third of its original, and thus the extent to which the emperors' lives had extended lessened. The more the stone fragmented, the more the effect would lessen. Current Emperors Balthasar, Melchior, and Gaspar came into possession of the fragments after many generations had passed. When Emperor Balthasar had his first child, a girl named Karen , he broke off a piece of his fragment and gave it to her. Emperor Gaspar did the same when his son Khan was born.

Unfortunately, a fragment of the Orexis Gemstone was stolen…from the Emperor Balthasar's daughter, Karen. She was kidnapped by someone from Syris, the emperors know, but they do not know the name of the assailant. The man who pursued them and Karen's husband, Khan, died during his assault. Karen was also pregnant at the time of her kidnapping, and when news of her death reached the capital, the emperors knew their first and only female heir and her child were lost. They were forced to abandon that method of ascension to political power, from now on only accepting male heirs who were handpicked. Therefore, the emperors fell into despair and declared war against Syris once again.

Emperor Balthasar
Age: extremely old
Originally From: Chrono Trigger

Balthasar's daughter Karen was murdered 20 years ago, right at the onset of the next war between Syris and Henhue, who previously only squabbled over territorial disputes. Balthasar became withdrawn and sullen after this event, making him the most mellow of the triumvirs. Despite being at war with Syris, he most often seeks to negotiate nonviolent solutions to problems.

Balthasar is originally from the RPG Chrono Trigger, and he is voiced by my brother.

Emperor Melchior
Age: extremely old
Weapon: Dreamstone Saber (katana)
Originally From: Chrono Trigger

Melchior did not have an heir, but he was still attached to the children of his fellow rulers. He still feels Syris is at fault and would gladly give up arms if they would only return the Gemstone fragment. However, until they do, Melchior swears never to lower his Dreamstone blade, which is actually his fragment forged and tempered into weapon form.

Melchior is originally from the RPG Chrono Trigger, and he is voiced by my cousin.

Emperor Gaspar
Age: extremely old
Originally From: Chrono Trigger

Gaspar is the angriest and most bitter of the triumvirs, having lost his son to one of Syris's own warriors. Syris denies having anything to do with Karen's kidnapping to this day, and this infuriates the old emperor. He is the warmonger; he constantly points fingers and insinuates guilt among the other countries in various matters—especially the source of the plague. He is extremely suspicious of Mechapolis and trusts their sole ambassador, Citan Uzuki, even less. But the only thing he hates more than Mechapolis …is naturally Syris and their king Garland.

Gaspar is originally from the RPG Chrono Trigger, and he is voiced by me.

Season 2 Profile
