Description Yesterday's submission....I was supposed to take the day off because it was my birthday, but since I was just relaxing with nothing else to do, I was able to just sit down and work on something.

Colored pencil drawing of a hawk...I don't usually like stuff like this, but this pic I really liked for some reason...

And yeah, my friggin' scanner totally bastardized this...but I'm too lazy to try a get a good pic.

You did very nice, and if you say the scanner messed it up, it must've been really amazing in person! Great job!

No prob! I'm not very good with coloured pencils, but I am with just plain pencil! I wish I could use coloured pencils.

It just takes practice! Anyone can do it!

I mostly draw things like fantasy based, centaurs, elves, you know the stuff. I'll finish one and want to colour it, but then I'm afraid I'll mess it up.

TattooSavage In reply to Neria-Mahariel [2010-11-25 02:29:47 +0000 UTC]

This is what I do, when I'm not sure how to color something...I scan it, and then print off a few copies of just the lines, then I practice what effect I want to get on the design...that way I have less chance of ruining the original...once you know what you want and you've practiced, then you do the original.

geez, that thing is pretty damn good for not liking to "draw this kinda stuff". it's the coolest ive seen of your deviations yet. maybe you should try more of these.

Thanks! I picked up a couple of books from the library with lots of pics...there's a few more that I'm interested in doing, so maybe I will!

asussman In reply to TattooSavage [2008-02-10 01:57:06 +0000 UTC]

thats the best thing to do. hit the library and copy everything you like. its images like that one with contrast, shadows, color variations & blending, and and all that cool stuff that will teach you far more than the cartoony stuff - although the cartoonish stuff, albiet simpler, can teach a bit too.

TattooSavage In reply to asussman [2008-02-10 14:10:00 +0000 UTC]

It's funny, cause I almost feel like it's the opposite....I feel like just duplicating images is the easy part of art...it's far more difficult to be original and come up with something from your head...I seem to admire artists who do art from their head much more than realistic style artists, cause to me it seems like anyone can duplicate real life you know...but there is something to be learned from it for sure...you learn to see true colors, hard and soft shadows, and not necessarily what your brain thinks is there.

asussman In reply to TattooSavage [2008-02-10 17:16:44 +0000 UTC]

youre right, but i was referring more to those cartoon things you have been drawing and submitting as deviations recently. there are no highlights, shadows, etc. to really learn from when drawing a little cartoon design. its my opinion that (unless you are a natural) you learn how to draw straight from your head by copying, and learning after copying and studying what you have copied for so long. thats how i learned ALOT of what i know now.
