Description Once upon a time, centuries ago, back before she was Grand Admiral or even anyone's mother, Trean took her twin swords and double guns and capped a lot of bad guys on Boston's rooftops and back alleys. This is her c. 2007, the year of the Arcane Revolution.

Guys. This was a REAL stretch for me. ACTION POSE! GUNS IN PERSPECTIVE! DYNAMIC LIGHTING! Once I did one thing, I just kept doing more. I know that not everything about this picture is perfect. I need more practice. But! I'm still very proud of this one. Finally I actually feel like I have enough skill to draw Trean as I always wanted to. And if I'm wrong, and I don't have enough skill, I will get it someday.

Pen drawing colored in PS with added background.

Not only is this perfect and amazing but it features a fully clothed female! You, Temiel are amazing.

I've peak into your gallery and I love your art. The lighting and shadows here are beautiful and you showed perspective who the boss is. I really like how realistic the anatomy is and the expression. The movement is clearly read and and I love the concept behind this piece.

Kudos!!

I'm so sorry it took so long to respond to this comment, but to be honest I re-read it a whole bunch of times and it made me happy every time, so I didn't want it to disappear from my inbox! So I guess that's the best possible reason to not reply? Who am I kidding. No excuse. I'm really glad you like it- to be honest it makes me cringe a little to look at it because it's so old, but at the same time this was a legitimate favorite piece of mine for a while. Action ladies are great, but not always when they've got vulnerable bits floppin' all around. Again, thanks so much! This comment totally made my day, week, and by extension, my month.

Very much deserved. I really love this piece and all your work. I am going to watch you, if I haven't already.

Honestly I don't get fantasy armor or female heroes' costumes.

Haha, me either. I'd just as soon have my characters not wear armor at all rather than chainmail bikinis or halter-chestplates with bare midriff and boob windows. XD Goodness knows it'd be about as effective as wearing nothing protective at all. Tbh, I don't particularly love drawing armor, but I do at least try to keep combat costumes functional. For the most part, anyway... occasionally I'll cop to indulging in a certain amount of whimsy (I have a secret weakness for swordfighting in a big billowy impractical skirt or gown).

But in any event, I'm glad it rings your bell! Thanks again!

I can not tell you how much I hate female armour in fantasy MMORPGs, urgh.
I adore it.

Ah, thanks! This one's pretty old, I've just been putting it in a couple groups since it flew under radars the first time through. I'm really glad you like it, it's a favorite of mine since I don't normally do action poses!

Both the feet should actually be pointing in more, the position they're in is POSSIBLE but I can't imagine it's comfortable for her ankles. >_< Oh well, it's my first time.

I'm glad you like it! Thank you much.

Thank you! I'm glad you do, it was a fun departure from my usual repertoire of kissy pictures. This character is such an action girl, so it was nice to finally draw her in her element. This isn't technically my first EVER action pose, but it's the first one I've finished in a way I actually like.

This is sooooo unbelievably awesome. The anatomy and foreshortening here are flawless! I love all the details in her clothes, but like *shideh , I keep going back to staring at her boots all the time!

temiel In reply to solfieri [2010-01-16 21:42:37 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thank you so much!!! I wouldn't say "flawless" myself... the arms aren't quite foreshortened enough and that one hand on the right side doesn't have a convincing grip on the gun, but overall I was just so pleased with how it came out even if it's not TOTALLYPERFECTOMG. I'm so glad you like it. It was a lot of fun to draw her like this because she's been in a million action scenes that I've never bothered to try and depict before.

AAAAAAH THANK YOU!!!! I'm so glad, thank you so much. I didn't think I could draw guns to save my life either--those and the boots were the only parts of the picture I referenced. Well, look at that! You know, I'm really fascinated by her legs. I love the anatomy there and the wrinkles in her pants - but what I like the most is THE BOOTS! Their shinyness and details and awesomeness makes my tummy happy!

The twist in her body is good, it makes the picture dynamic, as well as the diagonal slant of the composition. Great movement in her hair as well and nice work on those guns!

It's nice to see that you're experimenting with light and poses and such It'll be interesting to see what you come up with next!

OH MY GOD... Thank you so much, I think my head just exploded reading this comment. I'm so glad you like it!! I was actually afraid that the feet/legs (and, alas, the hands) might be among the weaker points of this whole thing.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this just yet! I'm just glad I did it even once to "cross something off my list", as it were. I do have a picture in the works that has a whole interior background, and I'm kind of excited to finish it.

Once again, thank you SO much, darling!! You've made my afternoon.

*patches Molly's head together with duct tape*
No worries over the feet and legs! They're made of awesomeness!

I do have something to point out though. The hands/arms seems slightly off in the perspective - the foreshortening is a bit too shyly hinted. Making the hands and forearms bigger and emphasizing overlapping lines (agh, I can't come up with a better word for it right now!) would help to make it look more natural. It's kind of hard to explain though X'D Reference photos are greater than my half-assed-english explanations!

Hee, it's such a great feeling when one can "cross things off the list" and feel proud for trying! Ooh, and I'm looking forward to seeing the interior-pic!

temiel In reply to shideh [2010-01-14 21:20:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the tips! I actually know exactly what you mean, and I knew it wasn't 100% right as I was doing it... like I said, I know it's not perfect, and I definitely know what to improve on next time I try this sort of thing. Her left hand (the one on the right) bugs me too, it doesn't look like she's got a really solid grip on the gun. But for what it's worth, this was a first try, and it's the first time I've attempted anything like this in YEARS and the first time EVER I've had any success at all! None of this was referenced, I just hate using it so much... I don't know, maybe I should get over that or something. I just find it doesn't help me much and usually just makes me frustrated, but I don't know why that is... the only parts of this I referenced were the guns and the boots. XP

EXCELLENT!! Thank you! I was really hoping it would come across as movement-y, my previous attempts have all fallen pretty flat (if what my teachers at school said was any indication... ).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chenria In reply to temiel [2010-01-16 18:11:39 +0000 UTC]

Oh it is movement-y as you call it :3 and there is something I thought about yesterday evening when I was inking a picture... it's a tip I got once, too. when inking with a pen or generally inking it might help to give the picture more depth to make a (I lack words) ... dynamic lines... like where you plan to put shadows make the lines stronger as if they were drawn with a brush... on some parts the lines are stronger than on other parts... and where lines meet they can "melt into each other" (I hope you know what I mean +_+)
Varied line strength could really help to give a picture more dynamics and since you colour with PS most of the time it wouldn't vanish like my lines most of the time ^^"

temiel In reply to Chenria [2010-01-16 18:15:18 +0000 UTC]

It's much easier to get the line variance with a nib pen than a felt one, but I HATE HATE using dip pens because they make SO much mess... >_< Part of the problem is the fact that I draw SO small that I can usually only use one pen width. I used to do a lot of line emphasis back in the day but I completely lost patience with it years ago for some reason! Maybe I should go back to it. Thanks for the suggestion!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chenria In reply to temiel [2010-01-16 18:17:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh I stopped using nip pens ages ago... I just draw some lines bigger than others with my normal markers ^^"
but you should really try it some day again I'm sure it would totally suit your style :3
