So this is a short process video I we made for practice for a much better video that I'm going to do here in New York.
This video was made in Florida at my friends house. The piece was done for a wedding present. Ill post the final soon, it's scanned in pieces and I just haven't had time to do all the digital assembling, its a big paint in the ass.

The first thing you see is a photo shoot with a model friend of mine, don't ask her name, she's MY model
The next little quick thing you see is the digital file layers, color studies. then I get started painting.
SO, what I did first is go to Kinko's and blew up a drawing I did. You see me color the back of the print out in a dark red color, then I flip the paper around and go over the lines to transfer it on the page.
I typically just use my projector to get my lines up but I was about 1700 miles away from my studio. So this is a technique you can use if you don't have a projector.
Then Ill do my normal process, water color for a light color ground, let that dry, Then cover the skin part with white colored pencil (I used an woodless colored pencil for that) then start rendering the hell out of it
that's about as far as I get in the video, next I use acrylic paint to finish the background.
So like I said, this was just a test video for a really good one to come. It's gonna be a lot more explanatory (without words)
oh and the soundtrack is done by one of my favorite musical artist, Tim Hecker... sooooooo good!!!
he didn't do it for me, I just used the song...thanks TIM

hope you guys like it.

Hey Erik, I saw your video...amazing work! After I saw it..you really inspired me to do it by myself... I bought the paper you use but something that I found really annoying was that the paper peels really easyly when you use the tortillion to blend the colors....Also, I have tried to use a white color as a base for the skin but...also...the paper start peeling...then I used a sharpie white china marker (like a color pencil but a little more soft) and It is really hard to stick the first layer of color after the white.....I was wondering if you could help me with some advices....thanks!

my first suggestion is to wet the entire paper with watercolor.
After it dries apply the white pencil THEN rub it in with a t-shirt or something soft, make sure the surface is even when you are done.
Don't dig to much with the pencils, just lightly apply a few different colors then with a blending stump, rub in circular motions to blend.
The paper is not perfect but when you work with it for a while you'll understand it's nature.
It's the best paper Ive found yet

hope this helps

Great vid, always enjoy your process work, not a lot artists seem to put it out there anymore. I do have one naive question: What was the brown stuff you used to make your transfer on to the watercolor paper?

Just in case you don't get the comment on the YT page quickly, here it is again:

(From AngelicShades on YT) So wonderful to see a process video from you, Erik! (I'm ladydove7 from deviantart and have been watching your account for some time) It always amazes me just how smooth you can get your skin tones with a little grease and elbow polish.

Love the random guy that pops up looking at the camera, smiling. Subliminal messages?

A lovely piece too, can't wait to see the finished product up in your gallery Happy arting to you and good luck with the next video!

(And if not, you should definitely post a link in your journal so we can check it out)

wowza. you're making me wanna dig out my colored pencils again!
so i caught what kind of paper, and prismacolors are fantastic, but what exactly are you blending with? just a regular blending stub? and in some shots it looks like you have a cloth or tissue.
tell me more!
looking forward to the next one!!
