Though many find him to be a confusing enigma or even a frightening presence it should be said that Boyland is, Primarily, a man defined by singular obsession. He lives, eats, and breathes for the sake of his work with the post office; his work is the defining factor in almost all his decision making. Being a professional postman is what gives him purpose and joy and he is more than willing to sacrifice his own health and safety to make sure deliveries are completed correctly and on time. This mindset has gotten him into trouble on multiple occasions.
In the brief span of his life outside his work, Boyland is a bit of a social pariah, mostly due to many people finding him to be quite frightening. Boyland often comes off as scary to those unused to his silent, stoic demeanor, intense appearance, and strange skill for moving around with surprising stealth which makes him seem to appear and disappear without warning. In his defense, he simply has a hard time understanding how others might perceive his actions, they just come naturally to him and he rarely gives it much forethought. However, in being a bit of a social outcast, Boyland only ends up appreciating the few friends he does have even more and will go above and beyond for their sake.

History:
There is not much to say on the early days of Boyland’s life. His mother died from sickness when he was very young, it was a sad thing but he was too young to really know or remember the woman outside of his father’s stories of her. Boyland lived alone with his father, Ichabod, in the Galarian countryside in the sleepy little town of Postwick. Ichabod did what he could to try to make Boyland’s childhood comfortable as he could on a postman’s salary. While they never went hungry or suffered, money could be tight now and then, which led into the highly practical spartan living habits Boyland keeps to this day. It was from his father that Boyland grew his fascination and respect for postal work. Every night Ichabod would tell his son about his work, sharing with him the daily experiences and glimpses of people’s lives he saw when making deliveries on his daily route. Ichabod impressed upon his son that even if working for the post office is not always a glamorous or easy job, it is a necessary one. People rely on the humble postman to bring them packages of everything from books to bandages and that the delivery of mail is what helps people stay connected… Some might say that Boyland took this lesson a little too seriously.

Boyland was ecstatic to join his father in the postal service and took to the work as if he was born for it. There was, however, a bit of an issue that became apparent as he grew older. Boyland had inherited his Duskull traits from his mother, growing from a cute childish ghost boy into a frankly haunting figure as he came into adulthood. His appearance resulted in a few complaint calls from ‘concerned citizens’ along his routes, which often resulted in Boyland having to be transferred onto entirely new delivery routes despite his attempts to build a friendly rapport with the people on his routes… but at least it aided in his skills with navigation and adjusting to new terrain. His father, Ichabod, had worked with the post office in Galar for decades, earning him a good reputation and many friends and this was fortunate as it often required Ichabod having to call in favors to keep his son’s job. Afterall, despite the numerous complaints, Boyland was a stellar postman, one of the best all things considered, he was just naturally imposing and that wasn’t something he could easily control.

This all came to a head one fateful night in late October. Boyland was pulling extra hours and working a different route than usual as a favor to one of his co-workers that needed the evening off for a doctor’s appointment. While the deliveries went as normal for the most part, this particular route took Boyland outside of town to deliver a final package. Even as the weather turned to a heavy storm, Boyland was not one to be deterred by mere rain and continued on. His luck went from bad to worse when he was traveling through a wooded area. Boyland was used to making deliveries mostly within city limits, therefore did not carry any means to defend himself against wild pokemon such as the feral Noivern that seemed to have moved into the area. As the dragon pokemon attacked him, Boyland did not have the time to run nor the experience to fight, thus put his effort into safely storing the package he was delivering under a bush and trying to weather the angry pokemon’s attacks while he made feeble attempts to fight it off. In the end, when Boyland was left barely alive and bleeding on the rain soaked ground, the Noivern finally decided it had made its point in defending its territory and left him to die.
Indeed, a lesser man might have died then and there… but not Boyland, not while he still had a package to deliver. Thus it was through great force of will that he pulled himself from the mud despite his grievous wounds and went to complete his delivery. This act of foolish but still heroic determination was met with complete and utter disaster. When the elderly Whismur woman opened the door to see the imposing visage of Boyland, soaked in mud and blood holding an equally bloodied (but still perfectly whole) package set against the backdrop of a raging thunderstorm… It was a bit too much for her fragile heart and the woman suffered a sudden mild heart attack. Thankfully, Boyland was able to use the woman’s phone to call an ambulance in time to get her medical attention… but this would be something of a last straw. While Boyland was in the hospital recovering from his own injuries, a discussion was being had on what to do with him. Again, the most recent incident had not been his fault exactly, but it was negative attention and press that the local postmaster would rather avoid. While Ichabod argued for his son’s job, there was only so much that could be done. The decision, ultimately, was one to send Boyland away, far away, under the guise of a job opportunity. When Boyland left the hospital, he was met with instruction that he would be getting in on the ground floor of helping to establish an official new post office in the humble and remote locale of Harthaven. Boyland knew what it was, he was not ignorant of the bad press he generated… but an opportunity to keep doing the work he loved was one he would take, even if it meant leaving the home he knew. So it was with a teary goodbye to his father that Boyland took his few possessions and made off for a new life.

Business Type: Service

Talents:
- Exceptional memory: Boyland has a talent for remembering an incredible amount of information with perfect clarity, such a people’s names and addresses, dates and events related to memorable deliveries, city streets and wilderness trials
- Endurance: Boyland is used to walking hours every day, he almost never gets tired
- Dancer: due to being naturally light on his feet, Boyland is a pretty snappy dancer

Funfacts:
- Boyland’s Uniform belonged to his Great great grandfather. It was tailored to fit him and given as a gift by his father and the skulls were added for decoration. As there is no official post office yet in Harthaven, there is technically no established uniform for postal workers and Boyland wanted to set a precedent with a vintage look
- Boyland’s mother, Catherine, was a Duskull. Belaros’ father, Ichabod, was a drifblim
- Despite having a deep appreciation of music, boyland is totally tone deaf and can’t hold a tune to save his life
- after his injury, Boyland only has one eye, this was a somewhat recent injury prior to moving to harthaven, thus he occasionally still has issues with death perception and occasionally bumping into things
