Personality: Over the year, Derek has adjusted to his role as on of the Harmony's generals. and even though he may not always like the job, he will admit that he has a hard time seeing himself in any other position. He does his job and he does it well. His Strategic mind and skill for gathering information make him the best for creating and designing missions for a variety of situations. Derek, despite knowing that the Harmony is at war, will fight to make sure he never has to give an order that would compromise someone's moral code (even if he sometimes has trouble with his own.) For all the extra precautions he will go through to make sure someone else remains same, Derek can be quick to anger and handles personal vendettas with much less forethought. A very intelligent man, always on the hunt for knowledge and information, Derek has an range of knowledge in many different subjects and tries to use his knowledge to the best of his ability in the field. One of Derek's main concerns is helping others, be it on a personal level or the Harmony as a whole. Derek believes that he has a responsibility to protect those under his command and takes failures to do so very personally, even if the fault was not directly his own.
Aside from that, Derek can actually be quite pleasant once you get to know him. good natured and loyal to a fault, he treats his close friends much like family. Derek is well known for his quick wit and sharp mouth... just don't bother him when he is too stressed, he can get a bit... Snippy
Backstory: Derek was born to a wealthy family, the son of a wealthy archeleogist and researcher... but it was an empty home, his father having a habit of leaving frequently and staying away for months at a time at dig sites. Derek doesn't exactly speak much on his early life, only mentioning that it was a quiet and lonely childhood. As for the reason why he eventually left, he won't say, but most assume it has something to do with the large scar on his left forearm. Whatever the reason, Derek ran away from home when he was 14. Derek spent about a year on the road, hitchhiking, meeting new people and learning interesting tricks from them along the way. Rumors persist that during this period, Derek spent a few months with a Travelling circus. Derek has yet to personally confirm or Deny this fact. Eventually, Derek settled down in a small town not far from the capital. He took up a janitoral job at the local museum and planned to live her in relative peace... but fate had other plans

Parasite type: Black Backed Jackal Genetic Reconstruction
Parasite name: Anubis (referred to as Anu)
Height: 3'0 at shoulder
Origin: Anu is the only known result of a massive breakthrough in the understanding of Genetic code. This Breakthrough allowed scientists to literally rewrite and program the DNA of animals, resulting in vast changes in physical appearance, behavior, and performance. Anu was design and bred to be an example of just how far they could take this new form of genetic coding. Inspired and designed after the Egyptian god Anubis, Anu was created to be genetically perfect. Despite the massive success that Anu represented for the future of genetics... the people involved in the project all seemed to disappear. with just the prized Jackal and a few scientists with no research, there ended up being little to do other than to sell the jackal to the government for research. With the secrets to the genetic recoding that created him all but lost, Anu was experimented on for awhile in tests designed to test the ability of a 'genetically perfect' animal to resist the effects of the infection... as it would turn out, the Jackal turned out to have even less resistence than the average animal and became a parasite within the first test.
The Infection:The jackal parasite was lost in transit between facilities and escaped into a small town. Taking refugee in the Egyptian exhibit of a local museum, the creature became distracted by looking at a statue that had a rather striking resemblance to itself. It remained distracted and didn't notice when a much younger Derek entered the room, sweeping up the usual mess from the daily crowd. Derek noticed the strange creature immediately, recognizing as one of those parasite things he head the soldier's talking about when they thought he wasn't listening. Derek doesn't really talk about why he did what he did, beyond the fact that it was 'A change he needed'. Derek remains one of the few to have willingly infected themselves by swallowing his parasite headfirst.
the transformation that followed was painful but brief. Also unlike many others, Derek managed to quickly come to an understanding with his parasite, a feat he attributes to Anu's own relaxed personality. they both wanted to survive and knew they had to work together to do so. Agreement made, Derek was able to regain control in a few hours... however by that point, enough sightings had been made to literally bring the Government and Lavvy herself to his doorstep. Derek joined the Harmony shortly after.
Personality: Comparitively, Some say that the jackal is actually smarter than Derek. If nothing else, Anu at least tends to have a greater amount of common sense and self preservation instinct. Painfully sarcastic and unamused by idiotic actions. Anu is generally pretty easy going though, rarely opting to take over and preferring to let Derek run the show while he makes snide comments in the back of his mind.
Facts:
Derek actually only has one eye, his left eye is false (made of glass, specially designed to match his remaining eye almost perfectly)
very uncomfortable around kitchen knives, doesn't like to cook for himself
Derek has unusually high stamina, being able to keep going after strenuous or painful activity
Has tried to cut off his long hair, but it grows back abnormally fast so he gave up
When Derek joined the Harmony, his hair was black. whether his long silver gray hair is a long term result of infection or stress, even he doesn't know.
Considered to be one of the best defensive fighters among the generals, but don't underestimate his raw strength
Derek is good friends With Lavvy and Respects her deeply even though the two have major disagreements about how the Harmony should be run. Despite all that, whenever asked Derek will defend the idea that Lavvy was meant to lead the Harmony and he would rather die than betray her.
