Yesterday we got our first real snow that did more than just dust the ground and Emma was very very very excited about all that white stuff on the ground. In fact, it's still on the ground miraculously and she's still very very very excited about it. Our house is extremely whiny right now because she wants to go outside again--nevermind that she'd just been out two minutes earlier.

When I caught this photo, she'd already been out for about 25 minutes, loving every second that she got to be out in the cold with the Fantastic White Stuff on the Ground and had started to settle down to keep an eye out for everything passing by. "Everything" generally includes cars, neighbors down the street, other dogs in the neighborhood and of course the evil People Who Don't Like Giving Pettins. Today it was merely some kids playing in the snow and a neighbor's dog out for a potty break. But you can see that there is a quiet watchfulness in her face and her eyes as she guards us against these things.
