Damu was the first cub of Scar, born with the soul purpose to be a weapon used against his father. Naanda hated Scar with all her heart for causing the death of her first son Mtoto (even though he survived but she didn't know that.) Naanda was tormented by grief and depression that made her cold, she wanted nothing more than to avenge the death of Mtoto, despite Sarabi and her other pride sisters trying to comfort her. Naanda believed having a cub with Scar would give her power over him, she would truly have Scar's blood in her claws. She named this cub Damu, meaning blood to symbolize this. Naanda thought Scar would make Damu his heir but he refused, barely acknowledging his son's existence. At this time everyone could see how the pride was deteriorating, Sarafina in a bid to save the pride pretended to have feelings for Scar, as Scar loved her once. She tried to make him kinder, and help him make decisions for the pride to help the state of it. Together they had a son, Mheetu who Scar gladly made his heir. Naanda taken over by grief and depression could not raise her son properly, the fact he took so much after Scar's apperance didn't help, so Damu was mostly raised by Sarabi. Damu was very aware he wasn't wanted, he acted cold and cruel rarely showing any glimpse of emotion, living life with a blank stare. The only one he showed emotion to was Mheetu, with anger and jealousy. He was furious that this meek wuss of a cub was made heir over him. He was cold and strong, just like Scar, and he wanted to show his father this. He would bully Mheetu into constantly to prove he was stronger. He rarely spoke, just communicated through intimidation.

When Damu was a teenager he was exiled by Scar, he fled to Sarabi's birth pride and lived there until he was an adult and his father died. When he returned he felt like an alien to the new atmosphere in the pride. When he met Zira she made a proposition to him, to father her cubs to give them Scar's genes and together they could seek revenge. Damu agreed, finally he could prove to his father that he was strong, and tear apart the home that made him so cold. He fathered Kovu and Vitani but died in a fight before he could meet them.
