Wonderful colors, and a very gentle picture. I notice not only the tree, but the hills in the distance.

Thank you very much Pat If it weren't for the scenery (hills, fog, sunset) in the background I definitely would not have taken this photo.. to me they are the photo, and the tree is an element...

This gives new perspective on the tree problem. I love the composition and the overall mood that the photograph has. I will not try to define all the emotions contained within it, because there is whole bunch of them.

smiles, lovely pic shannon

my daughter says the tree is sad the sun is going away and if it were an Ent it would walk up to the hills so it wouldn't be so lonely.

Great composition, and the tree is crisp and clear. But what I love is how the
blue tones in the background are so smooth and mix so gently. Hard to get rid
of the house to the left, but I'm not sure if it would've worked really well with
a farm in the mid layer between foreground/tree and infinity/treeline. But it's
a bit much for any photographer to relocate farms

Great job

vividlilac In reply to flumpie [2005-01-01 08:50:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Frank I actually used a tripod this time (I usually forget!) to make sure the tree was nice and crisp.. There was a thick fog rolling in which I thought would make the shot amazing..

As for the farm house, I had actually not noticed it initially, but I am extremely happy it is in the shot because that is where my grandparents used to live when they first moved into the area around the 1950s. I had not even noticed how far down the road I had driven to realize that I was close to their old home!

Yeah, a tripod is quite essential for landscapes And a lucky break about the house
that was included then, it's always nice when you find great details after a shot has
been taken

Thank you very much! This piece emits a lot of emotion from me for various reasons.. initially I had thought of writing a poem or such to compliment it, but in the end i thought it would stand very well on it's own...

chaos-magess In reply to vividlilac [2005-01-01 16:02:24 +0000 UTC]

my pleasure yeah, the piece by itself already stands very well. writing a poem or such would only limit the vast interpretations that could be drawn from it and focus/bring out only a few...

Shannon - what makes this photo great isn't the tree, it's the background of rolling hills, fog, and outsprings of random trees. It provides perfect backdrop and complement for this tree.

Thank you Sterling, that is exactly the way I feel I could not have asked for a better foggy evening, and I had driven down this road on a whim.. You should have seen me pulling off the road when I saw this scene since I did not want to a chance of loosing the fog and lighting!

Hahaha.. ya, that was me! The road I was on was actually right next to the tree, and it was busy due to rush hour.. I got a lot of funny looks for walking around with a camera, but it was worth it to me

ishan In reply to vividlilac [2004-12-30 17:26:34 +0000 UTC]

well loneliness was definitely the first thing that came to my mind. It also reminds me of someone standing tall and undisturbed with the shit thats happening around. kinda like "the unshakeable". its really a amazing shot that.

vividlilac In reply to ishan [2005-01-01 08:59:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that is some of the feeling I get as well.. like a battered soldier waiting for the fog to roll in and begin another battle.. with nature.. man... time.. any or all of it may take a few more branches away, but in the end, there will still be enough of it to remain to not be defeated...
