Description This photo was taken on February 15th, 2008. I don't know what it is, but I've always found Barack Obama fascinating. So when I found out that he was going to be at the Kolf Center in Oshkosh on Friday, I wanted to get some nice shots of him. Sadly.. it turned out that John McCain was also in town at the EAA Convention Center within just hours of eachother. My feeling was with how things are going.. I would have a better chance to see McCain down the line to take his picture.

(Color altered, lightened and stretched for effect in Canon Photo Pro, P.S. & L.R.)

Lovely shot, he looks a bit orange but that does make him stand out...whadda ya think, he gonna be the next pres? This is going to be one of the most interesting races in my lifetime really...a chance for a black man or a woman in the same year...I hate politics though, I don't even like to vote and let me tell you why...i'm a part of the middle (lower middle apporaching rapidly with this recession) class so no matter who gets in office, we still lose because we make too much for any kind of extra help but we don't make enough to live on...it's a double edged sword...but my hubby and my friends will make me vote so..sigh...i'm still undecided..

Thanks for your comments Deb. lol.. he does kind of look a bit orange here, doesn't he. I picked up on that one of the last times I took a look at this. About the race.. even though I consider myself republican, you can't help but be inspired by Barack Obama's passion for a better America, even though it's almost an impossible mission(especially with the war). Truth is I'm really just fascinated about the historic measures like you said. I've always found presidencial election time fascinating. Every once in a while I'll come across old election pictures, banners or posters and I'm just wisked away to that era. What would it have been like to be there. *sigh*

Yes we do, and I have the feeling that Obama might actually come close. Then again, it could be what it has always been since.. about popularity.

You mean in times when a president's promise actually meant something? Seems like a thousand years ago don't it? I think I don't like politics because all each succeeding president has brought me is more taxes, more bills, less healthcare and rising unemployment rates...it just makes it harder for each generation...now don't misunderstand me, I'd love to get a president who really does want to change for the better and if Obama can do it, I'll carry him into the Oval office on my back while waving the american flag but who really knows until they get in office how they'll do...it's a damn scary game of russian roulette...we need another F.D.R.

I love the image, but he processing makes it look fake. It looks gray with not enough tonal variation

I was just going for something different. I had achieved a normal kind of photo, but with the wide depth of field, I started trying new things to separate Obama from the crowd including darkening the crowd a bit. Afterwards I started fiddling with the color and pixels to create some sort of effect. I just didn't know if this is considered photography or digital art of some kind? What's your take?

Definitely appreciate the comments and feedback Dan.

I agree with the "new" photography statement. I've been a firm believer in trying to do less post production with photos, but with the new softwares out there, it's nearly impossible to not at least try to be a little creative with it, because it's so fun. To me, this sort of reminded me of styled photos you see in old magazines.

As for the lens, I couldn't agree with you more. I just bought a rather pricey lens 11 months ago. I decided on a EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM by Canon and still wonder whether I should have gone for something with a bit more distance to it.. I'm at least glad I had this 500mm lens with me.. being I had about the furthest spot away from Obama.

I think it's photography. Maybe it's the new photography... but digital manipulation is so easy it's almost like it doesn't count unless you give him prosthetic wings.

On a photographic note, i think an F/2.8 lens would have helped the dof out a bit. But that's serious money... The only 500mm f/2.8 lens in existence is the Sigma 300-500 F/2.8 which is hard to come by.
