The first picture reminds me of an OC that I created called Noca.

Can't decide which ones better
"Wanted to avoid making it look too much like the Transformers movieverse Ravage, don't know if I succeeded in that respect."
It was put in the RavageFanclub so no I think not.

Well, not many ways you can design sleek-looking cats in two similar design styles, right?

Holy cow that's awesome! Love the second one. looks like he has more of a rat face though.

The second one is a great improvement from the first-- a lot more "alluring" in the facial area, and certainly greatly simplified. I also like the numerous recognizable parts (or at least motifs) in the legs.
One thing I don't like on the second version is that tail. The first one's tail looks a lot better, even though it is very vicious-looking, which doesn't suit this Rahi's deceptive appearance. Not sure where you could draw inspiration from-- far too few sets have satisfactorily flexible tails-- but I'm sure you could come up with something.
Great work overall on the second version, though. I need to practice more if I ever intend to have this sort of talent working with non-humanoid BIONICLE figures, particularly working from scratch.

The tail had me thinking too. Older System sets (like the Aquazone theme) had those long, bendable robot arms, but they would've been too difficult to draw correctly because of the way their pieces attach.
They did use plain, nonexistent connector pieces on the movies for tongues, so I figured if they can simplify, so can I. Still, I'd rather we had Technic pieces like those -- it would make things ely more easy.
As for drawing non-humanoid characters... it was actually pretty easy for me to draw rough outlines for these, since I used to draw a lot of big cats a couple of years ago, and have learned the basics since then. That's not to say I can draw lifelike cats, though -- but biomechanical cats, those are much easier.

A piece I've always wanted to use for a spine or tail joint is the old LEGO palm tree pieces. They're Technic-compatible, too. But I've always been hindered by one thing or another (more often than not the fact that I have no significant number of those in any colors but the hard-to-use Pohatu brown (official name: Earth Orange).

I've almost completely forgotten about those. Must be because I never had any. :/
But that would hardly hinder anyone in drawing them.

True. I need to draw more BIONICLE stuff... I've been kind of hesitant about drawing in general because of the stress my drawing class caused me earlier this semester (apparently, among other things, I've been holding my pencil wrong for my whole life). But I looked back at my HSB Karzahni drawing a while back and realized that wasn't that bad. So I've recently started sketching again, and hopefully I'll come up with some designs I'm happy with.

Good luck with that!
Thankfully, I don't have such problems with drawing, but I do have others... like realizing how bad certain pictures suddenly look even though they seemed rather good a few weeks ago.
I need to redraw some of my stuff for sure.

Great job with both of them. You did great giving this an organic, lively look, and still making it so I recognize many "pieces".

Thanks. I wasn't sure originally whether to use existing LEGO pieces or create new ones for them -- in the end, I went with familiar looking pieces that do not really exist like this. I blended them, so to say.
... eeh, don't know why I'm writing down all this excess info. A simple 'Thanks' would've been enough, I guess...
