Description This is something I've been meaning to do for some time now.

Something I've been meaning to say.

Let me summarize it this way...

When you refuse to forgive, it doesn't make you look "in-control", or "cool."
It has ramifications that go beyond what you could guess.

I've watched the Lati community go from a growing sensation of close friends, to scattered circles of hostile gossiping social-savages. The kind where if they don't like you, and you can't do anything for them, then forget it.

Some aren't so bad, but tensions are always high. People are finicky. They're afraid to open their minds to someone else, and I've seen others hurt because of it.

Me?
Well I stay away from most of it. I tried to step in and help before, and you can guess how that ended up.
Though I can't say that the overwhelming drama hasn't helped douse my fandom of the Lati.

That's about all I have to say at this point.

I know that feeling.

While I'm far from involved from this community of yours (though I'll tip my hat to you, as limited as I am in proximity to Pokemon, I admit these Lati creatures are rather appeasing to my interests), I've gone through-well, more like been witness to similar proceedings among the community who uses a sandbox game to make pretty pictures of small, oddly-colored horses. And from what I can see, my community is no stranger to the sufferings of yours.

Arguments over personal matters and matters of taste. Hateful messages being thrown about. People leaving in frustration, some of whom come back and get frustrated again (rince, repeat), other who close their accounts and contents leave behind almost nothing. Clear divisions among people, and general senses of uneasiness that seem to taint almost everything.

I suppose no community of people is immune to such things. Humans are humans, no matter their avatar, and our emotions will always have a habit of getting the better of us and letting things take a turn for the worse. Your decision, one I took to long ago myself, is often just to stay out of it and remain neutral yet observing. Perhaps its isolating in a sense, God knows I hardly ever talk to people these days, but in the end, I suppose it's worked out for me, and I'm probably able to fare much better interacting with everyone this way.

Perhaps it isn't all equal. My colleagues are still relatively thriving and collaborative, but with familiar individuals lessening in activity, a decline might be going on my side. Not quite the same as your situations, possibly, considering that group of yours that's all but abandoned, but might be getting there as time goes on. Still, when that day comes with all you cherish is in the past, remaining only in relics scattered around galleries and favorites and odd groups, it's a bit of a somber feeling. I've even gone on about it myself in a comic of my own: andrewnuva199.deviantart.com/a…

But regardless, you're not alone in such feelings, as previous commenters have made clear. It's not exclusive to your circle, and it's certainly not that pleasing to face. I suppose the best we can do is press on and keep those good memories close.

That makes Me feel like a jerk, not cause I act like that but because I'm newer to this community and still feels like I should take some blame. I came here because none of my friends were into latii like Me. So I took refuge here.

It is nicely done and nicely worded. I'll be honest though: You are a big influence on a lot of people, especially in the lati community. For some of the people there, who were influenced by you, your art and your stories, seeing you give up and walk away was a huge punch in the chest. Read your own words and remember that there is always something worth fighting for.

Not sure if this is about the deviant art community or something in real life, but let me give you some advice.

Isolation=No one to hurt you. But you get lonely
Population=Everyone to hurt you. But you will never get lonely

You gotta build a "wall" to hide and take cover from the shit life spews at you. You use your wall to let the right ones in and to keep the wrong ones out. I hope everything works out okay!

It's not just the Pokemon community but basic human nature. It occurs in humanity, throughout history and certainly won't exempt itself here on the internet. I'm sorry that you have to distance yourself, but I think that's the part where most people learn to as well. I've cut myself off from friends who have hurt me multiple times, and I'm sick of it so I just have one or two people that I talk to daily. I'm sorry about what's happened thoguh. I can't put it fully to in depth words but...I understand and have experienced similar pain. Hold strong Vypor

I'm sorry....I feel like this is my fault, this is long past, but still. I loved having more people join our Lati community, i didn't know it was going to get so big and people would start fighting, i learned from my mistake, but it also turned everything into chaos. Our little close group fell apart, and i extremely miss having all of you to talk with and hang out, sometimes I wish i could go back and prevent everything from happening, I did try to fix and work out the problems at the time, but it only worked for a while. =/

I definitely know how you feel...

Vypor In reply to Alotika [2012-03-04 05:12:07 +0000 UTC]

Don't EVER blame yourself for what happened.
The fault for it's downfall lies with those who were power-hungry and wanted control of it all. Those who found it more appealing to tease and bicker than be friends for the very sake of being friends.

We were naive back then. We couldn't have foreseen what would happen, so do not blame yourself.

If you can't read it and understand this happened long ago, and I am simply reminiscing about the old days, whilst reprimanding the actions of those who caused such a ruckus, then I won't bother explaining anything else to you.
Don't act "disappointed" in me, what right would you have of such a thing to begin with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jsekela77 In reply to Vypor [2012-03-04 23:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Alright then, you gave up. However, the fact that you're still even talking about it means you still care enough to notice.

Quite a bit, seeing as I've dealt with the same thing in real life. People call you friends until you disagree with them, then you're suddenly demonized and ostracized for what you believe. I never gave up on them, though, and things started to turn around. Things aren't perfect, but they are getting better. I had to go through hell to do it, but I came out with one last bullet in my hand. That time, I didn't waste my one shot (Sorry, Redlight King song reference -- good song. Look up Bullet In My Hand on Youtube if you get the chance). It was annoying as all hell, but it was definitely worth it.

I worded that last response horribly, and I'm sorry for it. It's just that...from reading your main story, I took you for one of those guys who was so stubborn, so pugnacious, so hardy, he just wouldn't give up on a good cause. Even when it looked pointless and naive. I guess I was the one who was naive here...I'm very sorry. I'm just rambling on now.

NanoCarp0 [2012-03-03 19:04:49 +0000 UTC]

This is the exact reason that, while you may see me as a part of these "fandom" communities, they are only a place for me to meet new people. Whether or not they become my friend is based on their own merits, and behavior. I'm willing to be friends with anyone and everyone, but if you aren't willing to accept me for who I am, than you can forget it. The internet is the place we go BECAUSE we are afraid of these things in real life. So if our release, to show who we really are, becomes thus poisoned, what purpose does it serve?

The trolls will always be there. The vain people will always be there. Then there are people like me and, I assume =Vypor here, the ones who simply don't give a shit what others think. I am who I am. If you like that, great, let's be friends. If you don't like it, deal with it. If you can, maybe we can still be friends. But if you are gonna go cause some political bullshit, then have fun, but don't expect me to respond or care, because I won't.

The Lati community is just one example of this. Unfortunately, there will always be rivalries. The key is to be able to look beyond them, and accept your rival for who they are, and remain friends, even while holding strong in your opposing viewpoint. To keep arguments about the topic, not about the arguers.

You can't help those who don't want help. And unfortunately, egos grow quickly.

I haven't seen any of this in my group, #The-Wannabe-Writers , and hope I never will, but chances are, that it will happen. That's why we have a policy not to insult others as an attack. Yeah, we joke around, for example, I call ~RyuDragonclaw an idiot all the time. But do I mean it? No. I'm joking, or referring to one single action. But the important part, is that he knows that I'm kidding, that we're still friends. We have our fights, but we stick the subject matter, not the other person's personal problems. We keep our minds open to 'factions' of thinking, while maintaining our own. Gay/Lesbian? It's not for me, but it doesn't make you any less of a person.

All are welcome to be my friend, so long as you can keep an open mind too.

Vypor In reply to NanoCarp0 [2012-03-04 04:54:20 +0000 UTC]

That's another of the many problems. People are not open minded at all, and it's utterly pathetic.
Trolls realize this, and add to the depravity by preying on the weak.

The Lati community wasn't the only one to fall to this. It's simply the way most people are these days. And they have no good reason to be, that's the real kicker. They simply want to look cool or make someone else feel smaller to compensate for their own shortcomings.

Me? I tend to stay far away from any fandom anymore. They all have the morons, and the morons far outweigh the intelligent people.

It's much better to just enjoy a thing than to join a community related to the thing, it seems. You and I have fandoms, we always will. But, at least when it comes to me, distance from the COMMUNITY of the fandom would probably be best.

Still, at least you and I can enjoy random BS together. XD

GlassPaladin [2012-03-03 16:13:27 +0000 UTC]

That is pretty sad. I suppose you could always start a new community? Although that is a ton of work.

In my anecdotal experience, I've seen similar things happen to other communities. People start caring more about the "community" than the original thing it was built around. It becomes more important to know who is doing what and have "status" than just celebrating what everyone loves. It's at this point that the gossip starts and people start getting angry at each other...

It's one of the reasons I don't get that involved with communities any more. I find it adds to stress of my life instead of detracting from it.

But I am sorry to hear this has happened to you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vypor In reply to GlassPaladin [2012-03-03 19:27:34 +0000 UTC]

It's fine. It's all done and gone, I'm through with it myself.
I witnessed what happened, what is CAPABLE of happening, and I leave it.

I suppose I still consider myself somewhat a member of the community. But I'm nowhere near as involved as I once was, I learned my lesson, and for the most part, turned myself into my own version of a hermit.

Communities are dangerous when run by those who are not used to the kinds who creep in and try to undermine everything, be it for power or entertainment.

Just don't be sorry for me, I'm over it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GlassPaladin In reply to Vypor [2012-03-06 17:00:55 +0000 UTC]

I understand. It can be very difficult to maintain a community, given the natural state of community decay. I think that, often, people on the Internet can be fairly young and don't quite realize what they are doing. I know I acted more like an idiot when I was younger. (Like, in high school. Younger than that and you just had crappy dial up. xD) I think human nature tends to work against what's best sometimes, and you certainly see that with some online communities.

I've also found I've just become less of a Pokemon fan with time. Not that I don't like Pokemon now, or anything, but I moved on to other things.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vypor In reply to GlassPaladin [2012-03-06 17:26:14 +0000 UTC]

True, but I also try to take into account that sometimes it's intentional with a reason. Like it's that person's ways of being a bully to ease the pain of the bullying they endure at school.
And while that doesn't excuse their behavior, it makes it somewhat more tolerable.

Agreed as well. Not the Pokemaniac I used to be. I have my spurts of fandom here and there, usually when I start playign a game or something, but for the most part, I'm spread out all over now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GlassPaladin In reply to Vypor [2012-03-08 00:51:10 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I suppose I never really thought of it that way. I always figured that most people are just idiots and have no idea what they are really doing. There may be some people who actually want to bring down a community, but normally the community can implode on its own purely because people aren't perfect. I am majorly a lurker, though, so I don't normally get too involved with communities in the first place.

Don't get me wrong; I still love Pokemon. But after awhile, the games do start to feel repetitive. It's a testament to how good the formula is that I haven't gotten that bored until now. I liked Pokemon Black, but I only played through it once, whereas I normally play them a lot more.

The one exception is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, though. I like that series better than the main series and I'd wish they would make more of it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vypor In reply to GlassPaladin [2012-03-08 07:17:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's easy to assume that, I am certainly guilty of doing so.
And lol at the lurker bit, that's exactly what I am now. xD

Agreed. It is repetitive. At this point it has gotten a bit boring, and what keeps it original is the different means by which you reach the same end as the others.

Ahh... Mystery Dungeon.
The very game that got me into the Pokemon fandom in the first place. They seriously need to make more of those. They're so much more original, and the storylines are ever so much more compelling. Hell, I nearly shed tears at the end, it was set up so well.

GlassPaladin In reply to Vypor [2012-03-10 00:26:47 +0000 UTC]

The Pokemon themselves are what keep the series going, as most of them are pretty cool. (Except horrible ice cream Pokemon. Don't get me started on horrible ice cream Pokemon.)

Agreed. The story lines are much, much better and all of the characters are a lot more likeable. It also feels slightly more realistic to me, ie, huge Pokemon are huge. Plus the music and artwork is a lot better, IMO.

The characters in PMD don't feel nearly as 'scripted' as in the other games. Because I swear, every pokemon game is swarmed with characters that are all "I MUST GO HERE AND BATTLE! AND AFTER THAT, I WILL GO HERE AND BATTLE! AND AFTER THAT..." I think you see the pattern here.

Waterdragon1657 [2012-03-03 16:10:17 +0000 UTC]

I know how you feel. It's great when you have tons of friends, you feel good because that's human nature. But when those friends begin to pick at you for your faults, they have lost the right of being your friend because true friends accept you for who you are.

Although I've got a close group of friends right now, I'm pretty sure that at some point, there will be more people that notice what we do and want to join us. Then, it will all go downhill from there.

This is why I'm also picky with my friends, because I know that some people just pose as your friend to get something from you or to try and change you.

Also, the part about trying to hide their true selfs because they might get mocked is quite true. Too many people fear many things nowadays, and it makes them lash out more often because of it. Too few people have realized that fear is the mind killer. It's great to see that more people are realizing it however.

Maybe we should talk more...
