OPERATION GALACTIC STORM part 13:
Having defeated the Shi’ar Imperial Guard outside Captain Marvel’s tomb, Quasar now found himself facing off against his Kree foes inside the tomb. Captain Atlas managed to get the Captain Nega-Bands and banged them together and was suddenly replaced by…Rick Jones??? What?
See, back when Rick was the partner of Captain Marvel, they had a peculiar modus operandi: Cap’s Nega-Bands had a variety of powers it could give their users including increased strength and speed, flight, energy conversion and in the case of Cap and Rick, the bands could also be used for them to swap phlaces. Which came in handy for Mar-Vell as he for a long time was trapped in another dimension called The Negative Zone. Rick could clap the bands together and Captain Marvel would appear in his place and save the day.
Apparently this did not stop being a possibility now that Mar-Vell was dead. Now poor Rick is gasping for air in outer space (Luckily Quasar was there to help him out.)
Shortly before all this on Earth, at the Avengers West Compound, Captain America, fearing the Shi’ar or Kree may come after Rick again, assigned Simon Williams, Wonder Man, to be his bodyguard.
Wonder Man was pretty surprised to suddenly see an angry blue alien dude appear in front of him. What followed was a hilarious Tex Avery-esque fight where Atlas would rapidly attack Wondy, then switch with Rick right before the ionic-powered Avengers could punch him. Over and over this happened, with Wonder Man early killing Rick a bunch of times. Eventually Simon timed things out and subdued Atlas. Wacky hijinks!
