Where do you find Red Kites, never seen a raptor like that one. I'm something of a Falconer myself, I help train hawks or falcons to help keep pigeons off buildings and off runways where birds could cause problems for airplanes, like what the US Air Force does. We got quite miffed and POed when Mayor Bloomberg of NYC, NY had excess numbers of Canada Geese around their airporte euthanized and saying they're off to a better place. What an ass. Granted there's lots of these geese and they can cause plane crashes if they get sucked into the engines, but not only could our hawks have reduced that problem, but goose meat is very good, and if alot of those birds have to thinned, at least thin them, but not waste the meat. A city like New York with over 8 million people, include alot of poor families and hungry citizens could have benefited from an alternative to wasting those geese's meat, a Canada Goose is a big bird, the number being gassed and rendered unsafe to eat, could have stocked the cities soup kitchens and food banks for the winter of that year. Oh yes the whole staff at our work and its counterparts and branches elsewhere deluged Bloomberg's office with letters of criticism, and unlike spam, physical letters make quite a big mess, coming from actual writers, and not just from the trained falconers, but other staff as well.

yeah, well at least we get invited to the NYC mayoral elections since then. We may not be allowed to vote with our NY branch counterparts, but we can support candidates who favor the alternative we mailed Bloomberg about, at least others know that the alternative of catching the geese for their meat and feeding poor families is very good for popular support in elections.

Very awesome! I haven't spent much time looking at birds on dA, but this is incredible. The detail in the feathers is great. Nice looking bird.
