I'll keep this simple so everyone can understand:Some of you guys are getting greedy with all your hijacks on the words "reason" and "intelligence", using them against others of different beliefs. Seriously, could you be any more prideful? Guess what. If calling yourself an atheist/Christian/agnostic makes you a self-proclaimed genius in your world, that's pretty much it for you. Doesn't really have anything to do with reality. In reality, your proclaiming to be the smartest of the bunch is what we humans call being a smart-ass.
Intelligence, reason, and truth are NOT measured by such things. Study, interest, exploration, curiosity, a thirst to know what you don't know, and an open mind for things you can't know, is what true intelligence is. Intelligence is for EVERYONE, regardless of their beliefs (or "lack of").
I'm sure all of you can guess who tries to proclaim themselves the "smartest" of them all.
As for my own belief, that belief being Christianity, I would like to say 3 things.
- God never told us that we could not use our brains. He told us to be driven by our faith to find out more about Him and the world around us.
- Science is encouraged by religious folk. We even have Christian scientists who are just as smart as secular scientists.
- Jesus told us to be humble in our beliefs while spreading the knowledge and study of God.
So Christians, PLEASE follow through with the last part I said about Jesus telling us to stay humble.
That's all I gotta say.

Pridefulness and disregarding people's opinions because of your swollen ego is just ludicrous, no matter which side you're on.
However I'm guilty of resorting to these arguments when a troll has proven themselves to actually be dumb, and thier beliefs are causing them to hate other people. I dunno, I'm just the sort of person who hates willfull ignorance so I end up ranting at them with "Open your mind! Tell me the REASONS why you believe that!" and sounding like I think christians are idiots or something. T^T When I'm really just arguing a specific point like "interpreting that passage to mean that women are subservient lesser beings is stupid" or "saying gayness is foul just because god APPARANTLY said so is stupid- can you explain exactly why its bad?" Instead of "believing in god is illogical" itself.. just like.. I wanna actually say "Not forming your OWN OPINIONS on your religion is bad, you're just parroting intolerant rubbish. Have you even read the bible??"
I'm just not very articulate and get easily upset so I always end up shaming myself by resorting to this dumb sort of "I'm smarterrrr!! There's no proof of god!" argument
So I hope more people see this and start reevaluating how they argue with people...

My dad and his mom are the same religion. His mother is a hateful, racist hypocrite, and my dad is a good man with a good life.

My brother looked at me like I was retarded when I told him I was a Christian. Then he started quoting the Bible, which he never even read.(I haven't either, but I'm not going around using it like he did.)
Luckily, my friends that are Atheist are pretty nice and cool people.

It's really dumb to claim that you're smarter/better than anyone because of race/sex/religion/sexuality etc.
I am an atheist. Does that make me smarter than anyone else? No. It just means I have different beliefs than other people. I dont get why people throw shit fits over religion. You respect my beliefs I'll respect yours

Hey, I am an agnostic, and I agree with this! Intelligence, knowledge, and reason are for all. And there are smart people...and dumb people.... in all walks of life. Granted, some would cite atheists are statistically smarter, but in what grounds? IQ test? World experience? Grades in school? Their Resume?
There are different kinds of knowledge, therefore, in my opinion, different kinds of smart. I am not to stellar at Calculus, but in Chemistry, Biology, and even Physics to a certain extent, I am proud of what I have been able to do.
I am a Forensic Science major, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
And yeah, some religious and non-religious people don't know how to sit down and humble themselves. We are all human, after all.

I agree with this stamp. I am an atheist and I believe that I am the same level intelligence as everyone else. Everything is just a 'label' to me. I truly do hate those atheists that think their Einstein for pete's sake.

Lol. People call me an atheist without balls for being an agnostic. It's just that I don't claim to know if God does or doesn't exist, and that's why I won't claim I know either side, religious OR nonreligious. There's a quote like, "I am an agnostic; I do not claim to know what other ignorant men are sure of."
Although there are some annoying agnostics out there too, I know.

Very true. Though I have to admit that I've noticed that many fellow Christians who call themselves "scientists" adhere to what most of academia would refer to as fringe science or pseudoscience. Cryptozoology, for example, relies almost completely on dubious eyewitness accounts and does not actually follow the scientific method, and there are several other so-called sciences that are popular among Christians that have the same problem.
Not to say that there aren't some well-known Christian scientists out there (Michael Faraday and Rene Descartes, for example).

What makes people smart is education. It is sad that in the United States people don't learn much facts and history about different religions and atheism at school. Here in Europe most of the schools give proper education about different religions and atheism to everyone so maybe because of that people don't argue so much about religion. I am an not a religious person but it is sometimes fun to realize that I know much more facts about Bible than many Christians from United States know.

I studied about history and the bible and religions including atheism on my own and now I want to go into professional resources, and yeah, I agree that America is not really that open about those topics in public schools, at least the ones I have been to. In order to learn about such things in depth here, you pretty much have to go to a specific college or pay for a specific class. I'm a Christian who does the research and wants to know more and more, and I don't want to be restricted in that. Though, I don't go around bragging about it, nor do I claim to know everything or know more than atheists.
