I don't think many people realize that Christianity was NOT the oldest religion, or the only religion that ever existed. I met a few of the faith that are absolutely ignorant to this fact, and it irritates me to no end when they try to harbor on that fact. No.

I do not believe in this religion, nor do I directly devote myself to a single one in itself. However, I do believe the ones that revolve around God or Allah to be truly blasphemous, and inherently violent and unaccepting of those who wish to deny it.

I believe the bible, the Torah, and the Qu'ran have various discrepancies and faults, because they were NOT written by God.

They were written by the human element. The human element has faults. There is substantial proof that a Pope changed the BIRTH DATE OF CHRIST to fit with Yuletide celebrations (I've read many sources that say the same, though, this may not all be true.)

Not only that, but they claim that those who do NOT believe in god are morally injust and susceptable to becoming criminals, pedophiles, murderers, rapists, etc.

I've claimed myself to be atheist countless times, though I sway with experiences that I've had, which is NATURAL for a human being. However, I denounce pedophilia and find it disgusting and wrong. Why? Children can not properly and healthily reproduce. Ever. Nor can their growing bodies cope with the stresses of an adult, whether CONSENTING OR NOT, entering their body. However, the prophet in the Qu'ran (I will respect muslims enough to admit I've no idea how to spell his name properly), had sex with a child.

I would never rape. Why? It's terrible, I cringe every time I heard on the news that it had happened to somebody, and I myself was put through that terrible ordeal. I would never wish it on anyone, ever. However, in Christianity, Lot was significantly raped by his two daughters so they could carry his children. Catholic priests are caught raping children every day it seems, yet the Papacy does NOTHING to combat or bring the priests to justice.

I could never kill someone. I was in a war, I had to do what I needed to survive, but I will tell you this now, that while I did not believe in many gods back then, I sent a prayer to Odin to bring their souls to their houses of peace. I cried, I wept, and even now I can't sleep because I see their faces. Yet the bible, a god that 'Loves and cares for his people' Had slaughtered them on countless occasions, and showed nearly no mercy every single time.

Note, I mean no disrespect to those who believe in religions, as long as they respect me and beliefs in turn.

What most people don't realized, that the Horned God, also known as Pan in some cultures was where the form of the devil was created, not only because they didn't like paganism, but because they wanted to attempt to scare those who were not easy to convert into believing that their god was an evil one, and they were going to a bad place.

Exactly.
Usually when I comment on things like this with my own opinion I get bitched at. xD I'm glad someone at least agrees with me.
But then again, you know exactly what you're talking about. ^^

Psht, I don't bitch unless someone says something stupid. You didn't say anything stupid in the least.

And aww, I'm flattered someone thinks so. x3

Certainly doesn't stop most people from thinking it's the only religion and everyone has to abide by its rules.

Uh isn't the stamp's statement rather obvious? Christians know that Jews came before them. Logically, they're not the first religion.

I would not like to argue against an ally, but I just like to say that please don't generalize Christians.

If you have any serious questions, you should contact the Jehovah Witnesses. They can answer honestly and truthfully about the Bible and Christianity and clear up many misunderstandings that you may have. (Just saying)

Foedus In reply to Witch-of-Endor [2011-11-30 22:03:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh? It doesn't seem that many of them understand that their religion wasn't the first. In fact, many of them argue that their religion was the first and only one present in the world, and the ones that came around now are just copies. Yes. Copies.

And I'd much rather not talk to the Jehovah Witnesses, I have a hard enough time trying to get them to understand that no, I DON'T want to learn about the church of Latterday Saints. I have a World Religion class to teach me enough about it, that, and I have a lot of open minded friends who are willing to talk about it and accept my view.

And I've not generalized Christians. Though many of the 'christians' that I've met are dunderheads. So until I meet a christian FACE TO FACE and not online, I'll continue to base my opinions on those that I have social contact with.

Like spies, Dunderhead Christians are a dime a dozen. They kind of put Non-Dunderheads to shame.

Well, it's God's will for his followers (Witnesses) to spread the word of God. And you have to admit, they're very very nice people.

Okay, I guess that's fair.

In all honesty, I don't think a group that puts videos like [link] out are very nice people. That and the few families that I met who are JW, don't get me wrong, were very nice, yes.

They just gave me a feeling like I shouldn't look in the basement.

Don't know about that one. I'll have to ask my sister.

I've been in JW basements. They're pretty nice and clean.

Haha! Don't worry it was just a metaphor about the basement thing. And there's tons of old JW cartoons on youtube.

Yeah. There been religions way before Christianity. Christianity kind of descend from Judaism because Jesus Christ himself was a Jew. I think Judaism, Muslim, Hinduism, Buddhism were here before Christianity. Christianity's probably the youngest religion there is. I realized that all of the mythologies Greek, Norse, Egptian, Mayan and Gaelic were religions once until people decided not to believe in them anymore. That's probably the future of the all of the current religions, someday they will become mythologies. They're already are to us atheists.

...are people really that stupid that they think Christianity is the oldest religion in the world?
I knew that Christianity wasn't the first religion in the world since I was in kindergarten. Kindergarten!
Hell, the entire Old Testament is completely Judaism! There's a few elements of Christianity in the Old Testament, but they don't reference Jesus explicitly!
God, it pains me when I hear such nonsense.

Foedus In reply to Ainrana [2011-11-29 18:57:59 +0000 UTC]

Yep, Oh yep. People are stupid enough to also think that the world is only 6000 years old because of the bible.

But there's obvious scientific and carbon dating proof otherwise.

But hell, we're all heretics right?

"The earth is only six thousand years old. The bible said so!"
With that logic...
"Hogwarts is real, Harry Potter said so!"

Uh yeah... okay. Where in the Bible does it mention that the Earth is six thousand years old again? I'm really bad with finding things in the Bible.

It doesn't say anywhere that the Earth is only 6,000 years old in the Bible, but people still quote it like it is.

Witch-of-Endor In reply to Ainrana [2011-11-30 22:30:28 +0000 UTC]

I'm making fun of them. I'm saying that since people just randomly say things are right because 'They're from the Bible', why not do the same thing with Harry Potter?

Ironically, in USA they merge religion, mainly Christianity, with politics, when it is stated philosophically that religion and politics should be completely separated, making it hard to actually exist religious/non-religious freedom within citizens. This stamp is a shock for me because it is almost like that joke of "were does the chicken come from?" which most children will say "from the supermarket!"

I'm an European Christian, from the Roman Apostolic church. I recognize very well the existence of other religions, some of then older than mine, and my local church taught me to understand and accept other religions, has well has understanding our origin and never go against other people's beliefs, accepting them has our brothers, not enemies.

Politics hardly refer to religion, so does law, in a way that merging both is publicly regarded has "stupid".

If you'd like, here is a link with good information about the difference's between Europe and North America, [link]

Hope I was helpful

now, while i am christian, i don't believe it's the oldest religion. actually, it didn't come around until A.D. from what i understand, judaism is.
