I completely agree with you about Alistair. Yes he can be modest, even shy, and that's part of his charm, but there is way more about him! Really like the final panelΒ Β

Duncan was recruited off the gallows; his crime? He murdered a warden in a pickpocketing gone wrong. His recruiter was Genevieve, the warden's wife, soon to be Ferelden Commander of the Grey. Just something for Ali to chew on when he says that we can't recruit Loghain.

That's a completely fair assessment about Loghain. But, Alistair's response is completely emotional; understandable given how close they were, but I hate how you can't get him through that grief stage of lashing out, frothing at the mouth. I have a hard time killing someone who surrendered; even more so with his only child in the room (I'm too soft for DA, I know it, but I figure a Cousland might have hang-ups about family too!).
I also wonder, what Duncan and Cousland talked about on the ridiculously long hike from Highever to Ostagar. Maybe try to ameliorate some of the seething resentment that *I* can't go through the Origin without building? The similarities (in role-reverse) to his Conscription would have a chance to make some common ground.Β Sort of a "Genevieve hated me as much as you do now, but both of us were Recruited for a reason, not randomly or for cruelty's sake", then they start to bond.

Well, of course, but we all must understand that the game follows some story and probably to build up the tension we are not given all possible choices (which would be impossible).

And killing Loghain is not just about vengeance and emotion. It is also reasonable. The quest in Orzamaar showed conflict on throne won't fully end until one side perishes. The warden and Alistair have learned it the hard way. And the game does include an option to execute Alistair should the warden side with Loghain and Anora, it seems Alistair will never be safe with Loghain spared.

well, when you lock Anora away she says clearly that she would have Alistair killed if she stayed on the throne, only because he's Maric's son and he's potential rival heir to the throne... so, yeah.Β

only elissa cousland can marry and be queen. otherwise she's Alistair's mistress if he is king, which is how i'm going this current run since i'm solona amell, the human mage and cousin of the champion of Kirkwall,Β hawke

Pssshss when I heard that I thought that was actually silly. The soul of a god destroyed by the soul of a mortal?! Really... anyway, I admired him... until that last part in which I felt like strangling him. Woo!

I like your depiction of the hardened Alistair too. I think too often people make the men in Dragon Age too soft and squishy. The are men, for heaven's sake!
π: 0 β©: 1
yuhime In reply to Yathandra [2012-05-28 14:04:24 +0000 UTC]
More than that - those men are bloody fighters and warriors, sure sometimes nice and funny, but they kill other people - no squishy sissy could do that, you need balls to do that even if you're on the light side of the force.

Yathandra In reply to yuhime [2012-05-28 14:47:55 +0000 UTC]
Agreed. Just because you are good does not make you soft. Aveline and her husband Wesley are great examples of this. I did enjoy seeing Alistair turn into a man in DAO. As much as I enjoyed seeing Warden Carver grow up in DA2.
