I take that as a complement, Zeke.

I like your drawing style, proportions, perspective and detailing.

Our artistic skills can always be improved. That is something we should strive for.

Do what you can to enhance your skills. It can be a struggle.

Just remember to have FUN as you do it.

Wonderful pen and ink work. The details and the the decision to present the drawing on parchment, adds to the ancient feel of your visual narrative. Nice work!

What great work! I love seeing work that is done the old fashioned way. It has some kind of magic that digital just can't quite create. I really like all the details in this, the traveler's expression looks a bit dumbfounded. Nicely done.

Thank you, Indie! The old pen nibs are allot of fun to use. Many of the old pens have their own unique lines, which is almost like the sounds various violins would be to a musician. I love to encourage people to work traditionally, I think it helps "fine tune" their digital art skills.

Thanks Livvy! Backgrounds can be "fun" to work on. I know allot of artists can be frustrated by them.
I think your art would look great with some background work. Experiment with some of your drawings. Get a light table, and put some background art behind your figure drawings. Those background arts might give you ideas your figure drawings.

I'll be looking up at your work for inspirations of the
backgrounds and that is if you dont mind? And you are
ultimately welcome.

Another one that blows me outta water, The detailing is astonishing. Do you have the image pretty much set up in your mind or do you just flesh it out as it goes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zage56 In reply to StudioKaikyo [2010-10-25 19:02:36 +0000 UTC]

I had a general idea what this drawing was going to be like, at first. The detailing of the drawing had allot to do with my pen nibs. These fine nibs are great to draw with.
I would start on one side of the drawing with allot of details, and the I would have to balance it out on the other side. So, the drawing became much more detailed than the original idea and quick sketches.

Ah, Okay! Yeah, I have that happen to me at times, not to the same degree but I often feel that something needs to be added to help unify the image.

Really tight work. Have you ever considered doing a colour wash over a print of pieces like this one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zage56 In reply to Frohickey [2010-10-19 06:43:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Adrian. I have thought about colouring some of my art. I rarely work on, or complete any art at home. Most of my drawings are created while I'm at work. So, if I start a project, I usually want to complete it in the same sitting. If I don't complete it, that drawing might get lost in my drawing archive, which is a trunk I store allot of my WIPs.
IF I can complete an inked drawing, I think I'm doing good.
Colour is something I would like to do on a few of my drawings. Having the quality time to colour, seems to be my problem.

Perhaps a method of applying colour that was compact and portable like watercolours(field boxes) or watercolour pencils. These brushes work great with either of those options: [link]

How do you get your work to reproduce so well for computers? Scanner? Camera? Black magic?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zage56 In reply to MSpaintdog [2010-10-16 16:13:08 +0000 UTC]

No black magic! I put allot of paper on top of my art whenever I scan. The paper helps the drawing to lay flat on the scanner. Over the years, I learned a few tricks to make traditional art look good with a scanner.

What's a "gate traveler" ?

Lovely drawing.

Reminds me of the scene in Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles where the astronaut (I think, if I remember right... or traveler to/earth inhabitant of Mars) meets the Martian from another time late at night, and each sees there own time... yet they are speaking with each other, somehow converging together.

Zage56 In reply to mertonparrish [2010-10-16 16:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Inter dimensional travel works through a gate system. Rictor's ancestors created this gate system to travel short and long distances. Most of these gates look like large mirrors, or pools of water. The gate travelers have to own a key, to activate these gates.
Thank you, Merton!

I really love the way you gave your environment life in this. The ground, waterfall, and plantlife seem to fit right in. The only thing I think could have had work on was the human subject. Other than that, good work.

That's a good goal to achieve. I'm always more focused on trying to improve my backgrounds more than the subjects, since I know what I'm doing with the subject.
