Description This is one of the ships from my canceled Star Wars Fanfiction Series: Star Wars: The Shadow Wars.

Note: The information below is from my own universe which is a blend of old and new canon and is not to be considered canon in any other universe but mine. I should also mention that this ship is canon (or at least Legacy Canon) but its history is significantly different as far as my universe is concerned.

Class: EF76 Nebulon-B Escort Frigate
Manufacturer: Kuat Drive Yards
Affiliations: The New Galactic Republic, The Rebellion (Formerly), The Galactic Empire (Originally, Formerly)

"Maker almighty! How many of these did we steal from the Empire?!" "I saw the numbers, Princess. If I were an Imperial auditor right now, I'd laugh." "Why?" "Because it's better than crying." - Leia Organa and Galen Marek regarding the Nebulon-B.

To many who look at the Nebulon-B, most assume it to be an iconic Rebel Frigate. However, in truth, the frigate was originally Imperial in origin. The Empire had commissioned the Frigates from Kuat Drive Yards around the end of the Clone Wars to serve as escorts for supply convoys. However, the budding Rebellion managed to successfully steal a staggering quantity of the frigates, so many that it got to the point that most Imperial Commanders would jump the gun and open fire on a Nebulon-B on sight before the recognition codes could come in to prove they were friendlies. The Rebellion utilized the Nebulon-B in a variety of roles, modifying them as carriers, transports, and most importantly as medical frigates. The frigates proved quite effective as multi-role vessels, being effective at taking on both fighters and capital ships, although this was also their greatest weakness.

After the Empire was defeated, the New Republic commissioned more Nebulon-B Frigates, citing their effectiveness and usefulness. Older Nebulons were overhauled or decommissioned. The Nebulons are so prolific within the New Republic Navy that it's become a running joke amongst Republic Naval Officers that "A Fleet without a Nebulon is no Fleet at all." Despite the joke, most Admirals and Fleet Officers recognize the usefulness of having the Nebulons around. There have been attempts at developing newer frigates or replacing the Nebulon-Bs with their B2 brethren but neither the new frigates or the B2s quite matched the Nebulons for their robust and efficient service. Additionally, the Nebulons had become something of a symbolic vessel for the Rebellion, a "Ship of Hope" as Mon Mothma once said when commenting on the Nebulons with Admiral Ackbar.

Of the Nebulon-Bs there are two frigates of historical significance. The first is the Salvation, which served as Jedi General Rahm Kota's flagship throughout the Rebellion. The Salvation survived even into the New Republic. The Salvation currently serves along side the Lusankya in the First Fleet under Grand General Galen Marek's Command. The Salvation is adorned in forest green markings along with a dark green Republic Starbird. When Rahm Kota was confirmed killed during the Attack on Yavin in 28 ABY at the outbreak of the Shadow Wars, the Salvation's crew tinted all of the ship's external lighting green, in honor of Kota's lightsaber color and flew in a ceremonial parade formation three days following the battle. The ceremony acted as a memorial to mourn the fallen Rebel General who gave his life for the New Republic and Jedi Order that he'd fought so hard to restore.

The other famous Nebulon-B is the Redemption, which was the Nebulon-B medical frigate that Luke Skywalker was brought to after losing his right hand in his duel with Darth Vader at Bespin. The Redemption served in the Battle of Endor and, although it survived, the crew of the Redemption had no idea how lucky they were they did. After Endor, the superlaser targeting computer of the Death Star II was recovered. The Redemption was one of the Death Star's possible targets had Galen Marek, having infiltrated the station prior to the battle, not sabotaged the superlaser, preventing it from firing, before rushing off to confront the Emperor and Darth Vader. The Redemption continued to serve in the New Republic Fleet until it was finally retired from service due to its age (it had been among the earliest captured Nebulon-Bs by the Rebellion). However the Redemption was acquired by the budding New Jedi Order, retrofit and brought up to date as a medical frigate, and now serves as the Jedi Order's medical frigate in the Jedi Flotilla.
