I like that idea a lot. You are certainly right with your interpretation, though I didn't think about Sirius at the time I drew this.

that's awesome!
i love the way you've done the school instead of the woman with the water. it's perfect for the card.
and it really looks like a star-lit photo of the school.

Your entire line is just phenomenal! An artist is NEVER finished. I just custom refinished a "park bench" for a dear friend. It was a commish so I made some $$$. I replaced every piece of wood using multiple complementary stains, repainted and antiqued the wrought iron and enhanced the wrought iron back rest by coloring in the scene that was initially only "colored" with the greenish tones of the rest of the bench. With my enamels, I brought the scene of a hummingbird feeding on a tropical fruit among some jungle flora to life! I loved it and she loved it. Everybody loved it. I went back a few days after the delivery and noticed one small leaf I didn't do. I was so irritated. I wanted to come back and finish it because my sense of perfection was disturbed. She emphatically said no because it is what it is, flaws and all.
Crap. It still bothers me.

I really get you! I am the same way. If I cannot get to my sense of standard or perfection I'd rather rip everything up and start over. It's slightly obsessive, but hey...

EXACTLY. I have a minimum level of fantasticness I have to reach before I am even okay with it. Intensity, layers, details, finish, overall effect, cohesion, dazzle factor, etc. That's why I really like what you DO to create what you do. Each piece is like a journey. Each has its own story and its own life. You give birth to each and nurture it into "arthood."

Wow, this is really good. I assume you had a reference? Especially the castle turned out beautiful. However, I'm guessing you don't draw water all that often, do you? It is well done, but it could be better (but myself I think water is among the most idfficult things draw.) The imagery comes across quite nicely, because everything except for the castle and the stars is just really dark (I know, I know, the lanterns. But compared to all that dark they don't really do much.) ...good job on the boats, too - all that must've been so tiny on the actual drawing, I admire you for putting so much effort and detail into your pictures. What's that white spot on the right above the tower top though? I can't seem to figure it out. (I didn't even notice it the first couple times I looked at the picture, but at like, fifth glance or so...)
Yeah anyway. As usual - awesome work!!

Ellygator In reply to Azriaz [2008-07-18 14:23:05 +0000 UTC]
Thanks so much! The water was nearly totally blacked out in the screenshot I used, and I guess it tells that I drew something from imagination rather than reference. As for the white spot - ooops! I actually missed a spot. Can't believe I didn't see that before. I will need to fix that. Thanks for pointing it out!
