Sorry if you've explained this, but is there any rhyme or reason behind the names of these critters? Are these the names the Bex call them?

At this time, no. I do make up latin based names for them eventually because if a human biologist were to classify them that's what they would do. However, in an attempt to explore the culture and languages of the Bex I like to use words they use, which I just make up by making weird noises.

Are you asking if they have an internal or external one or what it's made out of? They have internal skeletons and I suppose they'd be similar to ours, as the Bex world is very similar to Earth.

I like going for the sort of insect like appearance while retaining a fleshy, endoskeletal look as well
