Description core formation of the kothryn guard. 4 slite cruisers, 2 dreadnoughts, 2 elite dreadnoughts, and the Kothryn flagship. additionally when the core fleet moves to a new system 3 battleships from that system are assigned to join the guard and assist in its duties.

as the purpose of the guard is to uphold lusfanian law and enforce it upon all violators friend and foe alike. assigning ships from the local forces to aid in this role adds detterent to friendly forces against breaking lusfanian laws of war and engagement.

this is a potential formation for a more elaborate spacescape scene that i am currently working on.

tragically very late in the render a large flaw in this image became apparent, theres a nasty seam on the texture of the plane in the background. and im not up for waiting another +12 hours to re-render the image

great work on them. Although they look like the imperial navy but nice colour scheme

beautifully done, I don't make ship models really, but your work does give some inspiration to me. This gets my fave!

While I agree with other that these are very similar to imperial navy vessels in BFG, these are some kickass designs man. I ran into a similar issue when I was on the design team for a mod and got accused of plagiarizing Command and Conquer 3's IP because I desinged a flyer similar to the Orca, caused me to leave the group. ([link] eventually was turned into [link] I also did the original designs for this [link] which they again complained about and I just found out that they decided to use it anyways, go figue...). There is nothing wrong with using other people's IP as the basis for your own, so long as the finished product is different.

I think that the problem that you've run into is that your designs don't look like something inspired by GW's ship designs, they look like GW's ship designs with some spikes thrown on and a new paint job. Harsh I know, but I think that these might need a bit more work before people will stop razzing on you. Perhaps changing up the sides a bit and altering the way that the engines are mounted might help.

And damnit, I'm now really pissed as I just found out that after complaining about my designs and my leaving the team that they used my designs!

2 years unreplied and i apologize for that...

i definitely know that these look far too much like the BFG ships, and whenever i find my muse again i plan to completely redesign them. i drew up the concepts when i was in highschool and before i had ever seen any BFG ships basing off of ideas from old greek and roman fighting ships mixed with the broadsides of tallships such as the H.M.S. Victory... first time i did see some BFG ships i nearly shat myself, then figured i could deviate them from the base enough that they would work... turned out i was wrong.

challenge i keep running into is i want the ramming prow and want huge broadside banks. doing that without it being warhammer is a pain and i havent had the motivation to work on any 3d for a few years.

how cool would it be, if you could use all of those in a RTS game, or something of the like? hecka cool

you should hecka sell the ideas to a giant company for a bajillion bucks, and have them make a game, then get some of the proceedes. then make another line of ships, and do it again! genius! haha just kidding, but it would be extremely awesome

this fleet is similar to my Howlon ships [link] , at least the prow and basic hull shape is.

failurecrusade In reply to SirJasonFrell [2007-03-21 23:13:58 +0000 UTC]

the prow roots back to ancient roman and greek warships, im sure you must have seen similar in the warhammer 40k lineups as well. for ramming ships its one fo te best ways to go imo

SirJasonFrell In reply to failurecrusade [2007-03-22 01:46:35 +0000 UTC]

I remember, though I use the prow for deflection, not ramming. I also have several BFG 40K Imperial Cruisers. Great models.
Come on and join the forum [link] and challenge some other fleets.

it would be a bit of a challenge (even though the sizee of the ships) to ram something, when the tip is tapered, but if you were to hit the broadside of a larger ship, it would surely crack it in two.. crazy

too bad the entire fleet is being redone.

if it had anything whatsoever to do with bfg then it might have been a different tale

That wasn't the angry reaction I was expecting.

Still, good designs.

nah the comment i read on a diferent shot, right after i read the one from you is the one that ended up with the reameage.

I know there is a BFG resembleance, took me years to accept it, but i did decide that because of it redesign's are in order.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shelax In reply to failurecrusade [2007-02-11 21:32:35 +0000 UTC]

The resemblence isn't that strong. Aside from utilizing the signature bow, which obviously didn't originated with BFG, your designs are fairly original.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

failurecrusade In reply to Shelax [2007-02-14 11:40:11 +0000 UTC]

i plan to change the bow even further from the tradition, keep the obvious ram look, yet give it a slightly different set of lines.

my ego has been set aside on the matter and i know that the similarity is undeniable. so even if the uniqueness of these designs can be appreciated, the redesign will leave me satisfied

program lol i acually thought they were scale models hehe
so its all software generated it really looked as if it were a real object if you fooled me then wow that is really well done very well done

damn thats probably the best comment ive yet received! i do actually plan on making a physichal model of the "kothryn flagship" 100% scratchbuild, still in the stage of figureing out the process before starting the actual work as various modeling compounds are quite expensive, but itll happen

nice i really look forward to seeing the finished product yeah that reminds me i wanted to build a dragon or something along those lines out of wire sheet metal and a mig welder but its too damn cold now outside to do fuck all lol for im gonna have to wait till spring

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

failurecrusade In reply to PaTHoLogIcaL [2006-01-05 01:50:37 +0000 UTC]

nah start a fire and then weld all day! use the fire to keep warm....though i owuldnt likely go outside for a whole lot of anyhting at this point in time...so cant expect you to...can us expectant little veiwers expect the dragon someitme in the spring or summer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PaTHoLogIcaL In reply to failurecrusade [2006-01-05 07:15:46 +0000 UTC]

thats the plan ive wanted to make something out of metal for a while
humm a fire might work ill look into it but ark-welding im a wiz at it id think it would be hard to us fire in how i wanted to make it ie individual scale made of metal with little wire frame id definatly look into using fire it would save the eyes (its a given itd use a mask but its bloody hard to see any thing with it unless polarized lezes are used and even those can be a pain) but hey i got plenty of time to figure what im going to do.
thanks for the ideas
l8r man

failurecrusade In reply to PaTHoLogIcaL [2006-01-05 08:24:01 +0000 UTC]

LOL...the fire is onlly sposed to keep you warm!!! but i do know of a large number of metlaworkers who have used a propane forge for most of their work...and those give off a massive amoount of heat.

a few questions

1) is the Kothryn fleet the earth's or is the war between the Kothryns and the lusfanians having nothing to do with earth
2) how do you make the different parts of the ships ( my guess: uv-bitmap for blueprints but they're too complex and curvy)
3) exactly how awesome is this whole thing gonna be. because my awesom-pacitator can only take about 4000 insanules.\
4)do you ever draw anymore, and if you do, post it.
